May need a new impulse generator? Usually, it will work sometimes and not others; or not at all.

Might need a new speedo or at least a refurbish. :(

First, check the connectors at the impulse generator. Problem may just be some dirty connections.

No guessing required, test and diagnose.....
Is the odometer moving at the correct rate? If so then it is likely not the sender. The symptom you describe is very similar to a late style speedo being used with an old style sender (old was 4 pulse per turn, new style is different pulses and at 8 per turn. I bought a used Dino speedometer, but it turned out to be new style inside with a Dino faceplate. Doesn't work with old style sender. If that is your situation we could do a swap?

You can test the speedo using just a sound card output and a free piece of software. Search for speedometer and my name. Rjay and I posted lots of stuff on the old style speedo circuits and their testing.
