Now I do a bit of trawling through there for cheap rentas and you, invariably come across some dodgy stuff, this one does take a great deal of beating though.

2002 mitsTubishi magna 3.5V6 with 8 month rego (here we go>)%80 good TAYER,PAWER STERING,PAWER WINDOS and (to this day I've no idea WTF he/she is talking about)TOR BAR PILS

My favourites are real estate ads - they truly murder the language. Favourite one is "back yard big enough for a marquis"... too bad if you wanted to invite a duke over for the barbie!

I'm now using Googletranslate a bit to smooth things with my colleagues in Shanghai office, but it really only works for single words; cannot cope with Chinese sentences at all. Classic last week was a letter addressed to a colleague named Tong (which can mean 'child') which in Chinese read "Dear Worker Tong" but came out of googletranslate as "Dear Child Labour"! Much amusement for all!

I know for many of us, English is a second language. I'm not a guy who gets too bent out of shape over grammar or spelling mistakes, except when they appear in official publications or ad-copy.
    However:
There's a trend I've noticed in social media (including this forum) over the last year, regarding usage of the word "whom". It seems many people use the word frequently, believing that it bolsters their "language credibility". Unfortunately it accomplishes the opposite, when used incorrectly.
So; the following is not offered as criticism of anyone, but rather by way of information, and perhaps a useful help / hint. (I'll never forget the day I learned a simple trick to differentiate between the proper use of "Affect" vs "Effect". This is hopefully received in the same spirit)

    From this link

The Difference Between Who and Whom
How can you tell when your pronoun is the object of a verb or preposition? Try substituting “he” or “she” and “him” or “her.” If “he” or “she” fits, you should use who. If “him” or “her” fits, you should use whom. Keep in mind that you may have to temporarily rearrange the sentence a bit while you test it.

    Who/whom ate my sandwich?

Try substituting “she” and “her”: She ate my sandwich. Her ate my sandwich. “She” works and “her” doesn’t. That means the word you want is who.

    Whom ate my sandwich?

    Who ate my sandwich?

    Let’s look at another:

Who/whom should I talk to about labeling food in the refrigerator?

Try substituting “he” and “him”: I should talk to he. I should talk to him. “Him” works, so the word you need is whom.

Whom should I talk to about labeling food in the refrigerator?

You can also use questions to determine when to use who and when to use whom. Are you talking about someone who is doing something?

Gina drives her mother’s car to school.

Yes, you are talking about someone doing something, so use who in your question.

Who drives her mother’s car to school?

    Now look at this sentence:

The car is driven to school by Gina.

No, the subject of the sentence (car) is not performing the action. Use whom in your question.

The car is driven to school by whom?
By whom is the car driven to school?

If you think the whom examples sound awkward or prissy, you are not alone. Many people don’t use whom in casual speech or writing. Others use it only in well-established phrases such as “to whom it may concern.” Some people never use it. It’s not unusual at all to hear sentences like these:

    Who do you believe?
Who should I talk to about labeling food in the refrigerator?

    seems I inadvertently stepped into a "hot-zone".
Glad I could stir the pot and offer a chuckle.... but I'm just as confused about it as I was before, haha.

As I said above; I don't really care one way or the other, until it ends up in an actual, official publication; there's always someone who can spell-check me then.

I was just trying to be nice. ;-) I really DID appreciate it when someone helped me (as a grown-ass adult) understand how to correctly differentiate between Affect and Effect. I still make plenty of blunders in English, I'm sure.
it doesn't bug me, it doesn't frustrate me, it doesn't do anything but make me wonder if the writer would want to know they're using it incorrectly. In this case, it sounds like y'all DO know that.... so.... carry-on! ;-)
