No, you're not alone. I have no need for a watch as I'm never on a schedule. Someone gave me a Heuer a many years back, before they became TAG Heuer, and I've never even had it out of the box. If I were to wear a watch, I'd feel 'strapped to time', a feeling I don't ever want to experience.

However, beautiful piece, Xavior. Enjoy it.

Nope, It's a silly analog crutch these days. Similar to the folks I see on the Metro reading the newpaper while I surf on my Blackberry.

Cigar, watch, same thing. Little niche habit. Funny thing is you will even see F1 drivers wearing a huge overpriced timepiece during events... Come on, with all the tlemetry on the wheel and the fact your race suit and gloves covers it...is it really that important to attempt to look cool during the pre race. geeezzzz.
But then again, a very large, large majority of folks are more about the look than the experience.

I'll be driving my Ferrari in a wife beater with sandals just to spite the Guido sportboys all decked out in their red Puma gear.

Serioulsy though...It is a pretty darn nice watch :)

I think the drivers are probably forced to by the sponsors, or are being paid big bucks to make sure the watch gets airtime.

    Lovely looking watch xavior.

Exactly. The post was rather tounge in cheek. Watches, sunglasses. All that fluff drivers wear is part of their nice kickback from the vendors.

    Must be nice!!!

To me , IMHO, a guy without a watch is like a woman without a purse .... it just doesn't look right.

I think the non-watch guys are forgetting that as men we only have a few accessories that define our style.
Women definitely notice the few things we wear other than our clothes.........Shoes- Watches- Sunglasses, are really our only accessories and like it or not when you are single they help define your style a little bit more.
Plus collecting nice watches is like any other collection, most mechanical watches have a ton of craftsmanship and are really little pieces of functional art.
To you non-watch guys go and do some watch shopping and pick yourself up a nice piece and see how it feels, just like driving Ferrari, or wearing a Kiton/ Brioni suit a high end watch makes you feel good!

I have a decent watch collection. True some girls like them others indifferent. For me it is the only justifiable piece of "jewelry" (aside from a wedding band). It at least has a practical function.

What stopped me from wearing one is the "old school" guys with hands that resemble liberace's stone works.

I will wear one when going out sometimes. The black/black ones do look good!! ;)

I've had Tag watches and Mavados etc. But nothing has ever gotten any notice from women except my Rolex GMT master. Since i'm recently divorced i've found as you get older women care more about money than they did when i was young.

That's a cool watch but i got a cell phone to tell time..to me a watch is nothing but a way to tell girls you got a little money and the only name they know is Rolex and if they do know another expensive brand their prolly from or used to being around money and that's worse because those women are the most expensive type.

Having said that i do like that watch.

What's your point? Why do people spend $200,000 on a car, spend a couple grand on a big screen tv when the current one for a $200 would suit the purpose just as fine, or a couple of million on a mansion, or fly first class, or drop $100 per head on a gourmet dinner instead of local Applebee's? I could go on and on.

We all have our interests that we are willing to acquire something that we value a little more.

As F50, it is really any of your business? Price may not mean anything to him (good for him). Hell, if he wanted to splash $100,000 grand on a watch if he had the funds for it, then more power to them. The old saying goes, beauty is in the eye of beholder. Or you could say, value is in the eye of the beholder.

The only problem I have is with pretenders. People who only care that it's a "Ferrari" or "Rolex", but have no idea of the product or the reasons that make those products great. If it wasn't a Ferrari or Rolex, even with the same exact product, they wouldn't touch it.

As for watches, is it something that you develop to wear as you move into your 20's and 30's?

What's the point in having a 348/355 sub-forum if this kind of stuff is posted? There is a "Watch lovers and collectors thread" but maybe a $10.000 piece wouldn't cut the butter there?

And this is why I bought what I did. I am not worried about name/price and the sorts, I just really enjoyed the watch. I seen it, I went home, did my research and went out and bought it. I would say it is cheaper then my yearly amount spent on cigars. I hope F50 diddnt think I was trying to show off with the price.... I mean...in a Ferrari forum? Or maybe I miss understood what he was trying to say.

I feel it may be. Now that I am getting a little older, I enjoy loking at a peice for the time and not my cell phone. I enjoy reading a book over the internet. Hell, I enjoy writing a letter over email....and I just broke 30. Maybe it is just me.

I wasn't putting you in that group. If you truly like the Rolex watch for the values that it has, then more power to you.

I'd still love a ferrari if it's name was kotex and came with a swasticka in place of the prancing horse.

    I wouldn't touch a Rolex if it's name wasn't Rolex.

I really don't care for watches..just see them as a necessary evil when dating.

    I love cars though.

LOL, a Rolex by any other name is still a freaking nice time piece. A vintage Rolex is a work of mechanical art. Just watch the movement with the back off - or install an acrylic backing. Pure artistry. The fact that they keep time so well, are so delicate and refined and yet have no quartz or electronics is just awesome.

I need some time alone with my watch now...

Oh, and I don't like to wear outside anything that can get me hijacked or killed. Nothing says "mug me" louder than a Rolex on your arm at the gas station or the AM/PM! :D Luckily the vintage Rolexes are pretty subdued and they just look like an "old watch" (if u can stay away from the diamonds and gold). :)

Those gold and diamond studded Rolex watches are gross. The datejust looks real plain.
I like the submariner cuz its heavy duty and not flashy. The GMT is cool cuz the hand keeps military time so you know what time it is back home even if flying on a plane without alot of electronic gizmos. I guess if i wanted to look dressed up the yachtmaster would do the trick without being blingy.

Can I assume, therefore, that this $10K watch was not "second hand"?

Tickles me how many here bang on about rolex being overpriced for what they are, hello! ....and the main subject matter on this site isn't an example of that....

I'm afraid they are what they are, have massive long standing reputation, the name is a huge brand name and thats that, you pays your money, but don't go thinking were all as impressed by an equally well built Citizen for jeez
