I tested another alternator and pin 3 12.6 volt from fuse next to battery is good, but I also have voltage on middle wire that's suppose to have power from relay behind drivers seat when ignition is on, without ignition on.
do I have a short? or stuck relay? is it relay 85 or 90 for a 2002 Thank you ahead of time.

Weird. Did you try pulling the ("devices") relay to see if the voltage disappeared?

(EDIT: I see that two relays have a similar name. Didn't I show you the location in another thread?)

As mentioned elsewhere, the relay is always in that physical location on all 360's. i.e. in the place marked in red (irrespective of what number the relay is given in the handbooks).

If you still have power on the middle pin after pulling the relay, then there is probably a short in the wiring. If no power, then try subsituting, say, the windscreen wiper relay or some other non-essential 30amp relay. The wiper relay is in the top left position of the same relay block.

Were you doing the voltage checks with the alternator plug disconnected? I'm not sure voltages you would get if the plug was connected and you were backprobing the plug.

I will change the relay and we will see, the alternator was plug in and verified the 12.6 V came from the fuse on the battery cable. If I pull the fuse voltage is gone. I have a feeling the voltage regulator is shorted out, as I heard is a common problem and a hard item to get.
I order a new alternator from Ferrparts will be here tomorrow, just don't want to burn a new one.
    Again Thank you my friend.

Sorry also the oval plug 3 pin disintegrated so I got a new one on line. is the terminal closest to B+ the one with constant 12 volts? and the middle the exciter wire?

The fuse near the battery powers pin 3 (red wire) of the plug. Sometimes called the Sense wire. Next to this, pin 2, is the ignition wire (yellow). Pin 1 goes to the instrument panel (yellow/green wire).

If you've got power on pin 2 with the ignition off, the problem is not the alternator. Is it possible the disintegrated plug is causing an external short, but I don't know how it would damage the alternator.

Sounds like you're loading up the parts cannon :D

Have a look at. Maniacelectricmotors.com They list the voltage regulator and rectifier as stock items @ $37+43$ each. Based in Dallas, Texas
