Had my 360 spider parked with the top down and windows up. As usual a bunch of people were checking out the car. When I brought the car home I noticed that right under the driver's door handle there were some new scratches in the paint.

When the car was parked I had been watching from a 2nd story window as somebody leaned over the car to photograph the interior. Evidently he must have had keys hanging from his belt as that was exactly where the paint was damaged.

I will never again park with the top down. If the top is up nobody will have to lean over the car to get a look inside. They would instead look through the window which will put distance between their body and my car.

    Live and learn...

    Sorry to hear that!. :(

Hope the scratches aren't too deep and will polish out. I'm always incredibly careful around other peoples cars to avoid this sort of thing.

Ditto, but most people aren't used to thinking in terms of not allowing metal (jeans rivets, jacket zippers, etc.) to hit the paint.

Unfortunately that means putting the top up when you park.

If the scratches are superficial ( not invol primer). Use some lubricated 800- 1000 grit sandpaper to remove scratches. Much safer than polish. Once you remove scratches with grit, then use fine polish to bring out the shine. Works great, looks great.

Thats way too harsh a grit for polishing out minor scratches that haven't penetrated the top coat - max 1200, preferably 1500 grit carborundum paper used wet would be way better - you don't want to hog off microns of paint by being heavy handed. Use the paper with a block too. To be honest with the cutting pastes and compounds available now you can often remove scratches completely just using that, followed by a decent polish. Either way, a good coat of protective polish after restorative work is a must. You would be surprised how good a paint repair you can achieve at home with a colour matched paint carefully applied to the sctratch using a very fine brush and built up slowly in layers, then wet flatted and polished - very easy to get invisible repairs with patience.
