I've asked about treatments for the material, now (especially after seeing a body piece destroyed by an "out of sync" mechanism) I want to know what I can do to keep my top operating in as-new condition. I think my wife's 335i conv./hardtop is not as complex as this.. other than spray lube (lithium grease?) each joint I see during up/down operation, any recommendations on lowering the chance of it taking a dump on me?

Ferrari doesn't have a PM method on this one. To my knowledge at least.

A lot of it is just keeping the hydraulic fluid in good condition and at the proper level. My mechanic has a 'spider top service' which he sort of invented, and it's mostly lubrication, fluid, and alignment of the top.

I'm going through an issue right now where I have a leaking hydraulic part in the headliner of my top. The leak is very small, but my mechanic has diagnosed it and ordered the ($1,000) part. Problem is that it's back ordered so I'm about halfway through my one month wait for it.

While diagnosing the problem, he did say he flushed the system and installed new hydraulic fluid. I was pleasantly surprised and how much happier and quieter my spider top pump sounded after this. It got to be really quiet.

    Good luck!

The cylinder in the front headlined is the same part as the 2003 and up SL. I just had mine rebuilt ($110) for the 360 and installed a quick connect on the lines which saved about 5 hours of labor. Took me about 30 mins to remove and another 30 mins to install.

I use my top a lot I just had my mechanic top the fluid off. I came home and tried to open it and all worked fine but the final closing step of the closure. I heard there was a reset button that may take care of the problem. Any suggestion before I take back?
