Has anyone sourced a new spider top with a glass panel in it instead of plastic. My indy told me he had heard of them.
That was my initial conclusion, but just today a second person mentioned it. Maybe just an unfounded rumor.
I have given this a lot of thought and searched around a lot. Pretty sure we would have seen something posted here if it existed but I guess there’s always an outside chance if it’s fairly recent. To properly store, the plastic needs to get folded in half and there’s not enough room in the storage area to have the full height lay flat. The only way this would be possible would be one of those split glass setups like older mustang tops (not really attractive): Image Unavailable, Please Login Plus, I don’t think these are capable of folding to the extent that’s necessary. Second option would be to have the window shrink to a much smaller size which would also look kind of odd from the back. I’ve been asking around for a used top as I’d like to explore what could be possible.
I learned to drive on a '65 Mustang convertible and don't remember the hinge being a rear view issue. In fact, I wondered why Ferrari didn't copy that. Would have worked well on Mondials and later 3XX series convertibles.
It was already a very complicated design. I think forcing glass in would have made it even more difficult to develop. The plastic doesn't always tend to bend in the correct direction, even with the over-engineered straps that are suppose to push the plastic outward during closing. Currently, you just get bad folds or marks on your plastic. If it were glass, you would have had a lot of broken tops, especially since most people don't pay attention to how their top is folding.

The rear window is replaceable, but it's a convoluted method. Really, this should have had a zipper or something. Now that the car is older, hopefully we'll see some companies make modifications that cater to those that want more function over originality. However, I rarely see tops that need only a rear plastic replacement without the main canvas as well. They usually both wear pretty evenly if they are maintained.
