I realize that the exhaust sound is very subjective. However I have been searching for the best sports car sound that would fit the character of the 550. Here are some of the observations:

    1. Factorymuffler + Resonator: Too quiet for a Ferrari
    2. Factory muffler + Resonator bypass by straight pipes (Fabspeed): A little louder, no drone.
    3. Tubi muffler + Resonator: More bass and louder
    4. Tubi muffler + Resonator bypass by straight pipes (Fabspeed): Too much drone
    5. X-Ost muffler+ Resonator: Slightly louder than tubi but not as well made as Tubi
    6. X-Ost muffler + Resonator bypass by straight pipes (Fabspeed): Unacceptable drone hard to live with.
    7. Capristo muffler + Resonator: Louder less base than tubi, quite acceptable
    8. Capristo muffler + Resonator bypass by straight pipes (Fabspeed): Too much drone, hard to live with.
    7. Quick Silver Muffler + Resonator: Slightly louder than factory and not worth changing
    8. Quick Silver Muffler + Resonator bypass by straight pipes (Fabspeed): Fantastic Mellow Sport car sound, no drone, loud at idle and low rpm, quite at cruise speed. Greater accelertaor response due to the lack of the restrictive resonator.

Hello. I am not familiar with the Quick silver muffler. How much the #8 system cost. Thanks.

The Quick Silver is made in England. I bought it new from a dealer in Canada who is a member of Ferrarichat for $1800. The Fabspeed (Fabspeed.com) center section is about $1000 and is beautifully made like their other products.
I will try to post a sound recording soon. Thanks.

    You forgot the best one...

    Cargraphic/Fuchs

W/resonator no drone - low end rumble a la Tubi and high rev harmonic scream.

W/out resonator - just plain mad dog mean!

Have you got a video Darth? I can barely find any Fuchs video clips on youtube, let alone one of a 550...

For me, this is my favorite:

    Suits the 550 so well.

I had a video of mine and I sent it to StephenS a long time and 3 computers ago.

I asked him if he still had it and never heard from him. :(

FTR, I based my search on finding the system that sounded closest to the Gumball Rally Daytona at 6AM in NY and the Fuchs was the one. :D:D

Each model is going to be different, so what works on the 430 challenge may not work on the 550.

For what its worth, 309 stainless is marginally better than 304.

Concrete and glass canyons are acoustically perfect theaters for the 550.

I like the system on my 550. It's not too loud, but still has some grunt to it.

Tubi Style rear mufflers with a "silenced" X-pipe (from Phil Hughes in Australia).

I've had more positive comments (from other Ferrari owners) about how this exhaust sounds,
than any of my previous Ferraris.

One of these days, I need to record some "drive-by" videos of the car, to really hear
    some sounds.
