Racing and testing are 2 different things !!

A 12-hour race and 2 6-hour sprints are hardly comparable to Le Mans 24 hours.
Yes they are PRACTICE, but they are not TEST.

To test for Le Mans means AT LEAST running for the same period, in similar conditions, and if possible reproducing the stress imposed by the long straights.

Teams used to do long distance tests, up to 36 hours, I remember, to push their cars to their limits and find the weakness. Paul Ricard used to be the favourite test track then.

I haven't heard of Peugeot conducting such test this year.

Of course testing and racing are two different things - even Ullrich finally admitted that. Peugeot ran 24 hour testing at Paul Ricard; Audi ran 24 hour testing at Sebring -> after the race they didn't enter. Peugeot also stayed and tested there (Sebring) after the race. If anything is going to break on a car, Sebring is the place to test all parts! Sebring has the rougher than a cob runway surface - that is definitely a test of a cars endurance for a 12 hour period. Kolles even ran 24 hour testing at Paul Ricard. I think that Audi and Peugeot will tell you that Spa is a test for LeMans. Those teams from the US who were at the 24h will probably say that the 6 hrs of Laguna Seca was also a test for the 24h.

So, is Audi justified/forgiven for having not taken
part in the 12 Hours of Sebring whilst opting instead
to test at Homestead and Sebring that week?

It must be maintained that Audi's presence in the race
would have made it much more interesting as Peugeot
was able to cruise to the win without being headed (with
the exception of that pesky EP breaking up their parade
    in the early going).

In this case, the ends justify the means but organizers
seeing that manufacturers are likely than not to cherry
pick events, opt to test instead of race, etc. now bring
    in the Intercontinental Cup.

Without knowing too much about the I.C. other than the
venues which will be taking part, what is really in it for
the manufactures? In an interview at Le Mans, Tom Kristensen
was asked about it and his response was basically that
the I.C. is uninteresting and his sole concern is Le Mans
and how everything else pails in compairison. But, of course,
he has the luxury of saying that now with eight overall
    wins there.

There have been attempts to form a unified championship
out of the big endurance races but nome have found any
traction since the demise of "The Big Four" which ended
    in 1972.

One thing for sure though, this Le Mans has got people
excited about Petit Le Mans this year, many starting making
    their plans already.

I finally caught up to finishing the recorded final 4 hours. YEAH AUDI 1 2 3!!!! It was heartbreaking to see the Pug's go though, and to see the emotions in the garages. I would have loved to have seen a closer battle, but how often does that really happen anyway. :)

TK is still one of my fav drivers of all time, and it was great to see that interview with him. I also really like Priaulx, and am glad to see they both showed class concerning their incident.

Good work by the Ferrari's, but I was hoping for a better finish from them. Too bad for Risi!
