Maybe you never saw Senna take out Prost of Schumacher wipe out hill for the world championship in Australia or how about Schumacher trying to ram Villeneuve off in 97. It wasn't dirty, it was a racer going for position. Everyone wants F1 to be exciting and he is adding to the excitement, a racer with bigger balls than many other drivers come along and just because he isn't in the red car gets cr@p. Would love to see the reaction if he was doing this in the Ferrari.
Ah, understand what you mean. If you don't gain a position by cutting the chicane, you might still have an advantage from it. The way I understand it, the FIA guys monitor your sector time after such an incident. If it is remarkably faster than your average time, you get a penalty.
Holy God - what a bunch of f-ing whiners we have here.....(seriously); it's racing!!!! What do you expect? A jolly, 'excuse me while I try and pass you attitude'? like Andreas said - what a bucnh of Schumi's old tapes - he was a ruthless bastard, as was Montoya when it came to winning. theuy guy staretd 15th; his main rival in the title was starting 6th. As I have said before, if Lewis were driving for Ferrari (and I wish he was), people would be pissing themselves over his 'aggressive; take no prisoners attitude'....etc. sorry to be so upfront, but the hypicrosy amongst us tifosi is hysterical. Kevin S. Orchard Park, NY (Tifosi for life, and owner)
schumacher was ruthless but the man also made some mistakes.. Senna knew how to do it.. he was masterfully skilled and brutal, yet didn't smash other people.. Schumacher lacks SKILL, Senna was a TRUE MASTER. Hamilton is behind both of them.
yes - but keep this in mind, where were Senna & Schumacher at 23 years old? Lewis has been consistently fighting for the Championship since his first race of his rookie year. Not too many others can say that............. Kevin S. Orchard Park, NY
...what the heck do you people think racing should be about...? LH came from 15th through to 7th,....and provided great racing as he did so. Is there something about being a Ferrari fan that makes you lose all objectivity. The best thing about reading these sort of threads is realising how much enjoyment I am going to have watching LH continue to ruin Ferrari's day on a regular basis....
Lewis has been in the Mclaren since day 1. That fact cannot be ignored. He is a great driver, young and in a GREAT car.
Well we support Ferrari here thats probably a bit of the equation. I have complimented LH here plenty. Doesnt mean I have to like him. Starting 15th and moving up is great, saying so here is more like stating the obvious. Stating the obvious about a competitor here doesnt mean much, it is a Ferrari site. I like reading about the Ferrari F1 team and its drivers and I really could care less how much LH stuff is posted here. If I need Mclaren specifics I will search them out as I dont really expect to see it here. If you want to see LH ruin Ferrari's day thats fine. Expect to see no support of that here. I can acknowledge LH as a good driver. Support for him here - have another drink mate
I couldnt agree more. He has the skills, aggression and focus. The boy is good. A bit more polish and he is going to break records. I dont have to like that though Id like to add that since this is a LH thread - Ferrari need to find something for low temps and or wet track. LH will win the WDC if we have one or even 2 more wet races. Thats an honest assesment no matter my allegiance to Ferrari. Singapore is in the tropics and it rains alot - nite is wet too and its a 60% chance now this far out from race date. Ferrari have work to do.
Schumacher lacks skill? What drugs are you on? I would like to try them..... Hamilton, although I seriously can not stand him, IS something F1 needs today. He is highly overrated, arrogant but talented. He does play dirty and in many cases totally uncalled for. You can not compare Schumachers moves on Villeneuve/Hill with what LH did to Glock. Senna, Prost, Schumacher were all balls-out-win-at-all-cost-drivers and all of them had their share of controversial moves, but they never pulled their moves on just anyone while passing them, just for the fun of it. Shumi took out Hill (still questionable) but it was a title deciding move. LH was going to pass Glock either way and Timo is not even in the same race as the top 4. Totally uncool. However as few others here have said F1 needs characters like Hamilton in F1
...fair points. I don't expect an unbiased opinion on this site. I am a Ferrari fan also, but I try to be objective about talent. LH is the most talented driver since Schumi and Senna. This sport has a history built on spectacular and decisive driving (Villeneuve, Senna, Schumacher...etc). LH provides the same moment by moment seat ofthe pants excitement that these other greats did. To try and talk down his talent and criticize his abilities, even to the extent of suggesting that he should 'tame' his driving is antithetical to the nature of racing, or the definition of competitiveness. The hypocrisy of this is the fact that if LH was driving a Ferrari, these very same aspects of his driving would be praised to the rooftops on this forum. I might add that Schumi, as a noted example, hardly played by 'Queensbury' rules either....and most of you here seemed to be quite happy with that situation... ps...thanks for the drink ...!!
LH and Heikki are the most penalized pair on the grid. They are out there driving aggessively to win. That I do understand big time! I expected that from Kimi. Not lately though
....LH is overrated....?? how can a driver with his record since starting in F1 be considered overrated...? amazing how tifosi are blind to the talent of anyone who doesn't wear a red driving suit...
Lewis does take more risks than most drivers. But since he's the luckiest sob on the grid, he can. Mostly. When the crash comes, it'll be spectacular. I suspect the Ferraris are so tight on aero that they just don't have the give in the suspension they need for wet races. Or for kerb hopping. I wonder if Lewis ever watched the pilot for the '80s TV series, "Riptide". There was a line that said something like "People generally get out of the way of a crazy man". (Or might Lewis be a closet DC fan? )
Interesting aero thoughts. How can they do much to improve the car in the wet/cool when they have had how long? Im not expecting any major improvement. Its probably too late and the new car has to be taking development resources in substantial measure now. No one can say LH isnt trying. He has a good car under him for that purpose.
Wow, what a short memory. I guess you for got about his multiple incidents with Prost. And the incident with Arnoux. There were others too, if you want me to dredge them up..
So people complain when there isn't enough passing and too much of a procession, and now that it's getting exciting you're complaining as well. I don't understand that at all, just like I don't understand the people that were happy about Lewis' penalty last week.
Someone has definitely supplied this place with some rossa corsa colored glasses. I dislike the hamster as much or more than the next guy, but the only thing that sucked about this race was watching him toss other drivers there asses in bags as he walked on by. Starting with Kimi. Sure, the technical reasons include the McNugget's poise in the wet, but I didn't see Heiki capitalizing on it. Midway through the race I was sure I was going to have to endure yet another infuriating interview with smarmy Lou after the race, but luckily his advanced was shut down. He drove the piss out of that car, and he got the job done. And certainly the Ferrari was limited by both chassis and brakes, but Kimi setting fastest lap - way too late to mean diddly - was little consolation. Look at it another way: if there was any reason the stewards could have penalized LH at MONZA, do you really believe it would be overlooked? Defintely the best part of the race was Vettel, who was simply fantastic. What a fun win to see!
Senna did not smash other people? Which Senna are you talking about? Aryton Senna admittedly took out a few people during his career. He made up his own rules somehow believing he was the only one that was correct. Give me a break with this kind of blind commentary. As for Hamilton, I do believe his aggressive attitude is what makes him good. Except for a few moves, I have no problem with his driving. But there is a theory, rumor, whatever, that is going around the paddock that there is a fear that Hamilton will someday take out himself and another driver with his approach. He is not considered just aggressive, he is considered immature.
And what a genuine interview. No BS, no bragging, no excuses. Just a genuine smile with down to earth answers. His interview went a long way with me in terms of a genuine nice guy, just happy to be where he is. Gave credit to everyone but himself. He even gave us a look into his boyish unsensored thought processes during the race. He even admitted to his mistakes during the race and never once blamed it on the car. Let's hope he doesn't change.
