WTF was he doing unlapping himself during the final two laps? That was just plain rude! What was the point of that whole exercise? Was it jealousy towards Hamilton? Geez, I am not a Hamilton fan, but I don't want to see a championship decided by some moron wanting to prove something down in 11th place.

I agree. I posted this in one of the other topics:

While we are on the topic of conspiracy's what was with Kubica?

LAST place behind even the Force indias ALL RACE LONG. All of a sudden he finds pace to attempt to unlap himself from the middle of the pack??? He was no where CLOSE to unlapping himself, they were all some REDICULOUS amount behind Massa. So WTF was Kubica doing? All the other racers are pulling off line to let Hamilton/Vettel go by. He then delays his turn in when hamilton lets him by....

This is after OPENLY admitting that he would rather have massa win????????????????????????????????????????????

I doubt it, but what if this was a plan to put a fast car in the back to be there for this type of senerio?

Yeah, that was pretty weak of him to do that. He should have just backed off.

He obviously had a brain fa** today. Ridiculous for him to drive the way he did today in light of what was at stake.

Wow, I was just about to make a topic for this, but you saved me the trouble. :D

The "real a**hole of the day" award goes to Robert Kubica - a backmarker trying to play punk with Vettel and Lewis, causing the skirmish that lost Lewis the 5th place (before Glock's failure gave it back). Kubica had no business trying to unlap himself at the cost of screwing with the front-runners and the WDC. He should be fined and penalised for the 2009 season, even if it was just a "brain fart".

But I wonder whether he had deeper malicious motives - after all, he made no secret of his intense dislike of Hammi's driving, *and* there was talk about him going to Ferrari in 2009. What do you all think?

Wow, I thought I was the only one who saw this!

    Yes, Kubica did something stupid.

Some folks are saying it's suspicious that Glock got passed easily (despite being 16 seconds slower per lap on dry tires). If we want to look for suspicious events, look no further than Kubica. He lost so much pace that he was behind the Force India cars... then he waits until Hamilton is coming up on him and does some sort of super aggressive move. WTF is up with that?

The strange thing is I thought Robert and Hamilton were good friends?

No Mike, of late, Kubica has been highly critical of Lewis' driving. You can just google the two names together and you get tons of news articles about his vocal criticisms.

Kubica lost me as a fan after he did that. I will never root for him again. Never.

Kubica and Hamilton came up through the karting ranks together, and has been critical as of late when it comes to Hamilton's driving. I think it could be resentment, Kubica feels he came close to the title and didn't have the backing of his team, and he feels that Hamilton lucked into his seat. That is all conjecture, or course. I think A large part is the fact that they are from the same generation, same age and stuff, so Kubica might not want Hamilton to get the championship before he does.
Either way, for whatever the reason he had, it was a punk ass move.
This is coming from someone who is critical of Hamilton as well, but fair is fair. Racing for NO points compared to racing for a championship? Even Glock, who has been highly critical of Hamilton and has warned that he would run Hamilton off the track, didn't do anything stupid.

He wasn't a backmarker by accident. Ask Glock.

Not that it is part of it, but I also recall Ron Dennis saying something about how Kubica is rich and why can't he get plastic surgery on his nose. I thought it was a low blow at the time, but I can see why there would be a lot of anger from Kubica towards McLaren. Maybe playing hardball with Ron's boy was payback?

I think Kubica earned some serious repercussions for that move today.

I was scratching my head at the time too. But Kubica pulling those tricks is not so much out of the blue.

He's not a fan of Hamilton to begin with, but he may also be positioning himself for next year. If I'm Kubica I know I don't want Hamilton to get the confidence boost of a WDC. If Hamilton has lost the title to Massa he'd be behind the 8-ball, getting named a consistent #2, etc.

Being from Poland, where Kubica gets far more coverage I can say he's definitely not that kind of person - he races everyone, doesn't matter whether LH, FM or, for example, Sutil. He had his own fight in that race - for most of it he was stuck at 16th, so maybe when the car somehow started working he did everything possible to get to 8th place, which would have given him the 1 point he needed to beat Raikkonen to 3rd in the WDC. It was a surprising move, but I guess with the conditions on the track being what they were he was just battling it out to the finish, just like the other guys.

Ehh. Is it proper racing etiquette to have let Vettel and Hamilton by or are those the F1 rules? I don't know so I'm asking. It did seem like Kubica was playing spoiler but this is not the first time its happen nor will it be the last in F1 racing so I just see it as part of racing.

If you believe the rumors and some of the drivers; you had Alonso, Kimi, Kubica and I'm sure other drivers that would do anything to ensure LH did not win but something tells me LH also had 1 or 2 drivers out there that were pulling for him to win and if the opportunity presented itself, made sure that he does win i.e. Glock? That last pass was VERY suspect but like I said before, just part of racing.

Next year with the new rules in place, BMW and Renault will be even more competitive and S. Vettel is someone to look out for next year as he has a bright future in F1.

And finally, congrats to LH for a well deserved Championship win and Massa for a GREAT season! ...Next year go BMW/Kubica!!! LOL :D

I dont know what he did. maybe tried to unlap himself because isnt there some kind of rule that all cars that arent lapped can pick up points if drivers in front drop out/get excluded after the race
? something among those lines.....Could explain him getting the extra point to take third in the WDC

did RD really say that? you cant be serious right? RD is so rich, why cant the bloody midget get a hair transplant and some taller legs then. he's worth around $100 million. Thats incredibly low to knock a driver based on its looks.

Yeah when cars are unlapped. Massa was what 30+ seconds ahead of 5th place Hamilton? 2 laps to go whats he going to do hit the nitrous button??? Kubica was nowhere near unlapping himself.

+1. There's a good chance that Kubica was being malicious.

Compare this to what LH pulled on Alonso (Japanese GP). The difference there was that FA was the leader on the lead lap, and passing him actually accomplished something. And there wasn't a skirmish brewing on the lead lap that LH might've gotten in the midst of.

In contrast, what Kubica did was a completely dick move. He had nothing to gain from it, and he could very well have screwed things up for another driver (or two).

Interesting as there was a good article about his in PlanetF1.com . They felt Kubica should be getting a two race ban at the beginning of next year for his moves. I think what he did was lame, considering one of the people was contesting the WDC, and had he done that to Massa everyone would have been up in arms. He had nothing to gain and it was a stupid move, and I like Robert and think he is a very good driver.

Is everyone blind? As WE ALL know the race is on until everyone passes the finish line (and sometimes even longer...). With 2 laps to go Kubica had a chance at 3rd in WDC. Especially when rain was coming down... who says a few cars in front couldn't get slowed down by some accident/spin, because of which Kubica could gain a few places. Yes, he was quite a long way behind Hamilton, but he wasn't racing him! He was going for 10th, 9th and 8th, which could have given him the aforementioned position. NOT for Hamilton! Just because Hamilton was racing for WDC does that DEPRIVE Kubica of his RIGHT to race for a position too? Maybe it was a bit of ****** move, but haven't we seen LH do that more than once in this season? I really doubt it was some personal vendetta lashed out at Hamilton, strictly intended to impede him.

A few places? He was what 16th? What good is a few places going to get him? NOTHING.

    http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2008/804/

9th place was on the lead lap. So Kubica would have to unlap himself from massa, then Go half a track faster than Truili to get 1 point ALL within 2 laps. So Kubica would have to do 2 laps to Truili's half of one lap(assuming those between the two do the same).

Yeah, your right, just racing for position. And we're blind... ::rollseyes::.

Your a lap down and racing people who are ACTUALLY racing for points. Everyone else was pulling over, Kubica goes at both Vettel(almost ruined his chance), then Lewis (almost ruined his chance).

No, he finished 11th. Like I wrote - he needed to gain 3 places. One of them was held by Nick Heidfeld - now we all know team orders are illegal, but everyone saw the Kimi/Massa incident in China. So we can assume he needed to gain 2 places - the second of which would have been Trulli, who IIRC was running on slicks (not the best setup, as proven by Glock). Now try to remember a year back and how much time Hamilton lost in the last race due to a brain fart. So did Kubica have a chance? I say yes - again, keeping in mind the track was getting wetter (and RK is quite good in the wet). Unfortunately I can't find the exact time difference between 8th and 11th right now - I'll try to get to it. In rain anything can happen though and I guess that's what he was thinking 2 laps from the end of the race - don't give up, fight to the end (unlike his team :/...). What's more - maybe he got news that the Toyotas ahead were staying on slicks. Knowing that might have also prompted him to push extra, as, like I wrote before, rain and slicks don't mix well and chances of Glock/Trulli messing up and grouping the front pack together were quite high.

As long as it was a clean pass, he had every right. Was it smart? No, Was it classy? No. Was it to his benefit? No. Was it against the rules? No.

Just listened to that Eddie Ervine interview that can be found at the top of Fchat. He reminded us that he got smacked by Senna for un lapping himself.
I cant remember that to clearly but that must have been funny. Imagine the lynching that would have been install for Lewis had he smacked RK.

I was talking about his place at the time, not his finishing spot. Im sure some of him moving up was him racing while others were pulling off line for Vettel and hamilton.

No matter how much you try to justify it, it just doesnt work. Kubica would have had to completed the next two laps BEFORE any of the guys before him finished INCLUDING 8th place truli who was already about half way done with HIS FINAL LAP.
