I know you regular posters have flogged this topic countless times; but as much as I love this forum, these silly "spoiler" titles really spoil what could be a great source for race wknd updates. It seems to me they make the section very cumbersome.

Since this is a racing subforum, cannot people just stay off of this, if they don't want to know the results? I understand that currently the newest title shows up on the mainpage, but surely that could be changed?

I don't post that much, but it seems to me this section would be greatly enhanced if the thread titles could be somewhat meaningful.

I think the best way to handle it at this point is to practice decorum.

    GOOD--

    "RAIKKONEN--SPOILER"
    "HAMILTON--SPOILER"
    "RACE RESULTS--SPOILER"
    and so on.

    BAD--

    "HAMILTON'S BULL-S**T 25 SECOND PENALTY COSTS VICTORY--SPOILER"
    "KIMI'S CRASH AT SPA--SPOILER".

Forget the rabble-babble-rouser-bowsers for just a mo', shall we. I have steered completely clear of R&T because of the damned headlines.

Simple - Keep It Mysterious. Be vague. Hell, 90% of time, during these long weekends, I don't even think a Racer's name ought to be in Title.

    SPA PRACTICE - SPOILER
    SPA RESULT - SPOILER

Absolutely NO use of GIVEAWAY or EXCLAMATORY words like:
    CONGRATULATIONS
    WON
    CRASH
    WRECK
    WAY TO GO

    or

    EXCLAMATION POINTS > !

Let's say there's a movie you haven't seen yet, but are "dying" to see.

Should the ending plot twist of the movie be the thread title?

Of course not on the main page. I "get" the concept.

It just seems like the "racing" subforum ought to be a place you can openly discuss that hot new movie, and if you don't want to hear about the plot twist, then don't come into the forum, until you've seen the movie.

Wouldn't it be nice, if the threads could be titled appropriately? (Without the silly "Spoiler")

Those who watch Spa this Friday will show up Thursday with some input for you. Almost like cavemen, savoring the past as long as possible.

Ah, but most recently active Thread titles show up on main page.

So, right off the bat, an Actual Spoiler in title = Major Buzzkill.

If an F-Chatter then goes to Racing Section, subsequent Actual Spoilers = Major Buzzkill.

Which is why this thread was created and an oft-ignored Sticky Thread from 03-11-2006 implores one and all: Don't give away racing results in thread titles!

This ain't the National Enquirer, where Headlines help sell "Secrets" to those with "'inquiring' 'minds'"...

Rather, since the R&T mods occasionally sleep and do things in the course of their day, like pursue the almighty dollar, it's simply a matter of Thread Starters to show a bit of self-policing restraint, saving their seventh-grade schoolgirl vomit-squeals of reckless abandon for all within earshot or eyeshot for the posts themselves.

This keeps the "I've got a secret" and the "I'll find out the secret when I finally have time to watch my TiVo/Tape/rebroadcast later" and the moderators happy, as they don't have to change the damned titles to keep the TiVo/Tape/Rebroadcast crowd happy, whilst being able to surf F-Chat without fear of having their champagne turn flat.

In the end, it's a Win/Win/Win/Win - after all, somebody won the race.

It never ceases to amaze me how people dont want to get up or stay up for a race live, cant tape it, but they still have time to come on here and possibly see the results. Sounds like the welfare F1 fans to me. What are we supposed to do? Discuss the race when the cars are on the track for the next race? Come on ....wake up and watch it live or tape it or tvo it. A couple of weekends a year I have a golf tournament that kicks off early on Sundays. I set the tape and when I get home I rewind and sit back and watch it. Its a very simple concept.

No, no, that's nonsense, it makes far too much sense to do something like that. Some on here still need their mother's hand to cross the street. You're asking too much!

This thread's title clearly reads: "Spoiler" titles, isn't there a better way?

As mentioned before, "there is a Sticky" thread, entitled: Don't give away racing results in thread titles!

Translation: Don't put RESULTS or other dead giveaways in the TITLE.

    Simple concept.

IF thread itself acts as a "Spoiler" - put "SPOILER" in the heading of the thread.

That is also a simple concept.

As for those who check in with FerrariChat before carrying on with other leisure activities, most are F-Chataholics, and need their fix.

That is yet another simple concept.

Some, who have been chasing the Almighty Dollar or Tail or Little White Balls [like yours, heh] catch rebroadcasts or tapings in one form or another [perhaps at another F-Chatter's domicile] and consider it redundant to tape or TiVO it themselves.

    Amazingly - another simple concept.

And if you can't see the race live, STAY OFF OF FCHAT FOR A FEW HOURS SO YOU DON'T RUIN YOUR OWN RACE! How many cry babies are there? Too many.

My point is that there ought to be a fairly simple way to protect those who cannot live without FChat from seeing the guts of the "racing" subforum for a few days.

The "Spoiler" system doesn't even work that well; and, for me, the forum would be drastically improved if the threads could have real titles.

Now, if the majority here like the system, and are comfortable with it, then leave it. I suppose if you were compelled to go to the "racing" subforum to see about one series, and didn't yet want to know anything about another series, then it might make a little sense?

It really seems cumbersome, and ineffective.

I think what we have here are a few babies that cry at the sand being kicked out of the sand box. Tell me honestly what "real" F1 fan can wait for days to watch a tape delayed race? I cant. Plus how many of us cant watch Sunday but are free to watch at noon on Wed.?

    Bloody Hell...
Look, I think all of this spoiler nonsense is as stupid as the next guy. Personally, I don't go near the internet, or if I do I stay away from all sites that may potentially ruin the race for me until after I've seen it. However, it's written plain and clear in the rules, has been for as long as I've been here, and I'm sure long before that. I for one am tired of these threads every other day discussing new ways around the spoiler title. Agree with it or not, it's explained very clear for everyone to see. It's not hard just type a simple 7 letter word in the title. Can we please put an end to these damn threads.
