What happened to LH was, IMO, political. RD is even more of an ****** than Alonso. There was NO reason for LH to push so hard. He should have simply let Kimi by. He should also have pitted at least 2 laps earlier. I blame RD as much as LH. I really think this was all politics to placate FA and keep both LH and FA at McLaren next year...

i really hope thats not true.

yes LH made a mistake pushing hard and not letting KR go past (he only needed 4 points and to stay above FA)
but i cant see any explanation (and im not willing to subscribe to your theory yet) as to why the team made him stay out for so long on those delaminating tyres

There is a discussion about this in the spoiler thread and since this has spoiler potential, I can only hope a mod merges it.

Unlikely. This was a stupid gamble that could have been due to fuel strategy. LH as driver could have demanded coming into the pits. For all we know at this time, it could have been LH that wanted to stay out. And he could have gone slower coming into the pits. Also, rumor is that McLaren was going to pull Alonso from the car if LH won today.

As Hobbs stated, LH had a brain fade. Similar to the guy that forgot to fuel Massa's car a few races ago.

Come on....no one knows what actually happened, and no one ever will.....but I would call it an educated guess rather than a theory. BTW, I am not a medical doctor but a retired Professor of Theoretical Physics, having taught at the post-graduate level at Cambridge in England for over 20 years.

I don't like LH but I don't think he was holding Kimi. There was a local yellow flag and then another, otherwise Kimi would have passed him a lap earlier. The speed with which he enters pitlane however could not be blamed on anyone else but the driver

Dennis is a cancer to the sport. I really expected the drama in the McMerc paddock to be over after this Stepnygate bs, but he just finds new ways to keep it alive.

I for one am not signing up for this theory. If RD wanted bad for LH (why would he?) than he wouldn't have been so absolutely stressed out when LH went into the gravel. I thought he was going to jump off his stool and run push him out himself...

    It's clearly a conspiracy ...

Speaking of which I thought pushing LH was out of order anyway since he wasn't in a dangerous position and a crane was nearby.

When I saw him gesturing to the marshals to push him out, immediately I thought "OH NO YOU DON'T! Not again..." Sounds mean, but I'm glad they didn't manage to get him out. He was lucky at the 'Ring, pulling off something like that twice would have been too much.

    +1

Same thoughts here. I would have switched off the TV immediately, would really have been to much. It's arguable if it was a particulary dangerous zone, but they should only resort to pushing the driver back on the track if there isn't any other way to get him out of the way, as it would be unfair against the other drivers who have to retire from the race after making the same mistake. And with the crane parked some 10 meters away and several openings in the wall nearby, pushing him back would only have slightly been shorter than pushing him away. Although the marshals weren't successful, I don't like that they tried anyway...

Thing is Florian, the marshalls looked to me as if they hadn't a clue what to do..

This needs addressing Marshalls at tracks seems to me there is no consistency..

THAT was my impression also... some really had that "what can I touch that won't brake" expression in their faces... imagine Lewis car had caught flames and there was no way for him to get out, the prospect of having to be rescued by those guys is frightening
