I am not an engineer but wouldn’t painting the sponsorship decals on the cars be better for aero than the stickers. I didn’t realize these were stickers until I saw the recent Ferrari SF71H video clip.

I imagine they've calculated the weight and aero efficiency and went with whatever is fastest.

It sends a message to the sponsors. “If the check bounces, you can be replaced”.

serious answer: easier and cheaper to do stickers instead of paint. Like this week in testing, swap drivers at lunch time = a name and a number decal.

Some logos are also really complicated with many colors. And the body work is twisted all over the place for aero reasons. It's faster to do with stickers and looks better.

when you get up close to the cars, you can see that it looks like its painted on... the decals are very thin. My friend who works at Renault said that they use this really thin malleable plastic that once you heat them up the edges almost vanish. he said they were like an industrial water slide decal.

The video shows the stickering of the presentation model.. so it may be a bit different.

I would love to have some real F-1 Shields .... !
