Pretty cool to see it do a sub-7 without any big wings and stuff! Almost 2sec faster than the Pista too. Can't wait to see what the VS version will do... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Getting a media track test demands a different skillset from the team doing it than doing qualifying laps in race and in some ways get a good test is harder
To stay with the point of the thread, first of all I will say very impressive time for the 296 (like others have said not even the VS). Ferrari's first sub 7-minute time! Now to what I wanted to say, thanks to the numbers posted by OP, I am really impressed the Pista beat the 720 by 8 seconds!
To be fair, 720 was on P-Zero corsas , Pista and 296 posted time is on Cup 2Rs , 720 on on cup 2Rs would easily beat a Pista, possibly match or better the 296
The 296 lap at the Ring is impressive. Lost some time here and there so it could be improved. If run on street tires, a tire upgrade should generate more grip and even a faster time.
And the 765LT is the appropriate comp for a Pista as it represents the best each MFGR offered in that class.
“Worth” is subjective. I own both, and to me the 296 is definitely worth the upgrade, regardless of the lap time it ran in this particular test.
You think? Serious question, why do all the McLarens come with Trofeos and why wasn’t the 720 on cup 2s or Trofeos?
A lot of chirping lately about Ferrari "losing their way." Thought I would post this: Fastest "Road Legal" cars on the Ring' with MSRP (with % differential in time achieved) 6:30 Mercedes-AMG One ($2.7M) 100% 6:38 Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR ($400K) 98% 6:43 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series ($350K) 96% 6:44 Porsche 911 GT3 RS ($250K) 96% 6:44 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ LP770-4 ($900K) 96% 6:52 Lamborghini Huracán Performante LP640-4 ($300K) 95% 6:57 Porsche 918 Spyder ($900K) 94% 6:58 Ferrari 296 GTB ($350K) 94% *6:48 Radical SR8 LM(not road legal in US) Curious where the SF90 VS will fall here.
Absolutely, 765 is direct compettior to Pista, just as F8 and 296 are in the same segmant as the 720/750S
I don't know why 720 had P-zero crosas and 296 had cup2 Rs during the timed runs, furthermore two 296s I test drove had Pilot 4s not Cup2 Rs, however Cup 2Rs and Trofeo Rs have superior grip once they have heat soak in them.
