So what are peoples experiences with sport cats and cel's? If i put a capristo sport cat set on my 458 should i expect cel's? Capristo says no. Any feedback out there?

100-150 cell sport cats trigger the cel's; 200 cell sport cats don't.

I have an appointment to have the Ferrari OEM sport exhaust installed today, and I was planning on installing the Capristo sport cats at the same time. (I believe they are 200 cell). I'm getting cold feet now about the cats. I'm not sure I'm comfortable doing it.

    Hope you ordered these:
    http://auto.ferrari.com/en_EN/wp-content/genuine-assets/en_EN/P000000115_en_458_Italia_Type-approved_silencers.pdf

    and not these:
    http://auto.ferrari.com/en_EN/wp-content/genuine-assets/en_EN/P000000114_en_458_Italia_Silencers_for_track_use.pdf

You can pretty much see if you will like the noise of the louder muffler by just disconnecting the vacum line on the OEM muffler. The F loud muffler is a bit louder but not silly (IMO - exhaust sound is hyper subjective).

I would add the cats if they are 200 cell. Anything lower will trigger a CEL. Given your tech is faffing to put the exhausts on, may as well do the cats.

ETA: I have 200 cell cats and a straight through muffler with no valves connected on my f12. Stunning. No CEL.

Thanks for the reply. The links aren't working, but I assume your referring to the difference between the Track day exhaust which is actually quieter. My dealer was aware of the difference and assured me it's the louder system.

Good to hear on the CEL. I'm a bit of a purist and hate the thought of having non-oem parts on the car, but just one can't hurt, right? :)

Capristo claims they are 200 cell.

The OEM cats on mine looked like some garbage pig iron with a filter rammed in, and weighed a lot. I used Innotech which came as mirror finish aluminium. More importantly they sound awesome.

If it's Capristo part no: 02FE004030051 or 02FE004030052 they should be fine as regards no CEL.

    I would not fit 02FE004030041 or 02FE004030042.

I'll have to confirm the part number, but this is what I ordered:

Exhaust System : Ferrari 458 Sports Catalytic Converter

Thanks for the help. I called Capristo. The ones they sent are 02FE004030041. Any idea what the difference is? US vs. Europe number maybe?

Called Capristo again. They said they had the part number wrong. They swear it is a 200cell, heat shielded.

So after lots of investigating, it turns out Capristo accidently sent me the wrong sport cats. They sent the 100 cell cats instead of the 200. They were more then willing to overnight the correct ones, so from a customer service standpoint I'm a satisfied customer. However, I've decided to just do the sport exhaust and skip the sport cats for now.

Annoying but at least the right component is on its way now. When you do fit them do report back on the noise!

I did the Ferrari sport exhaust and am happy with the sound. It's louder, but not too crazy. Also you still have the option of having it quite using the switch I have in cabin to open or close the baffles. As the exhaust gets more miles it sounds louder and more race car like. You will like it. Have stock cats as well.

Yep - that's exactly what they are installing. I should pick it up tonight. I'll let you know how I like the sound!

Can you be a bit more specific about how many samples are actually being used and how many miles / age of cars have gone without CEL's?

I'm finding it hard to find any verifiable facts other then opinions that the sport cats don't cause CEL's. I can't afford to install them only to find out I get a light.

100 cell cats WILL give CEL in most cases

200 cell cats will NOT give CEL in MOST cases

however if the 200 cell do give CEL we will supply you with our o2 simulators to fix the CEL.

As Ahmed from Vivid Racing said above we have also sold alot of these cats and are yet to have this issue.

Also Speedsport will attest that we stand behind our product and will do everything we can to fix any problems.
Again we apologize for the mix up in your shipment.

    Hi Andrea,

No problem on the shipping mixup. I totally understand and I appreciate your honesty with calling me as soon as you figured out the mistake and offer to next day the correct ones. It would very helpfull helpful if Capristo would engrave a model number into the cats somewhere.

Can you or anyone offer an explination on why there seems to be two opinions - those who say they will cause a CEL and those who say they won't? Your post suggest that the 200 cell cats could still potentially cause a CEL. Has any effort been made to identify what acutally causes the problem if some people get CEL's and others don't? There must be reason it only occurs to some cars.

    Thanks for all your help.

We are yet to have this issue with our 200 cell cats however we have heard claims that it is possible. Therefore we feel rather than saying it will never happen we will say IF it does happen we will fix it with our o2 simulators.
