Definitely an event worth attending - https://sportetcollection.org/ As of today, 900 cars are registered, with more than 400 Ferrari confirmed. Typically it gathers about 1000 cars (of which around 500 are Ferrari), including some exceptional competition ones, for track activities and exhibitions, and also features air shows and demonstrations (with French military aircraft and the "Patrouille de France"); this year is the 30th edition so that everything is done to make it even more special. The event is collecting funds against cancer, mainly to finance research at the hospital of the nearby city of Poitiers; since 1995 and the first edition, 6 millions euros have been collected.
I have attended numerous times covering it for Ferrari Market Letter. Going this year again. A wonderful world class event with a great atmosphere in a beautiful region. Highly recommended. I arranged the Breadvan's participation a few years ago, it was the big star of the weekend and they were thrilled to have it. It won best of show. The track event and charity are very well run, I have been saying for years someone should do something similar in the US but....crickets.
Marc Is there a proper, and I mean PROPER, hotel nearby? Not some run down Formule Un or whatever, please. And it would have to be a hotel with a good Ferrari-accessible closed and secure car park. Thanks. MM
Attached is the list as provided by the organisation - the closest city is Poitiers, so one has to look around that (preferably South, since the track is 60 km South of Poitiers). Apart from the Futuroscope (big amusement park just North of Poitiers), there is not so much regular touristic activity in the region (Cognac is 130 km away, Bordeaux 200 km), so that lodging is often a challenge. There are many small "vacation rentals" though, typically run by British people (for whatever reason - maybe the abundant rain - they love the region).
I've been only once and regret not going more often. Great relaxed event. Comparable to Modena Motorsport Track Days I´d say. The only downside for me personally is the time of year: hay fever season! Image Unavailable, Please Login I will be there this year, but only for one day.
Latest news: 512 (and this number is not made up !) Ferrari are already registered, and still counting...
Wow, I would have loved to attend as a spectator. We're going to be in Normandy for the first week of June for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. This event is over a 4 hour drive from our hotel, so it is a bit too much for a day trip.
Really nice event. Waiting to be there again this year. Two pics from last year Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This ought to finally give this wonderful event the global recognition it deserves. I have covered it for Ferrari Market Letter numerous times. A lot of people have been reluctant to go because the location is a bit remote but I have never seen anyone dissatisfied. The big collectors from France and other countries who actually attend keep coming back, year after year, a telling clue. I love the very friendly atmosphere there and that is a direct benefit of being in the countryside far from unpleasant big cities and rude people. The cancer research funding charity aspect is beautiful, a most worthy cause. I haven't made plans yet to go again this year but really need to!
No it does not look bad at all: some light sprinkles at Le Vigeant but not much. The best weather website anywhere in terms of accuracy is YR.NO the Norwegian national site. How to use it: do not switch to English as that will restrain your options as they don;t want foreigners using it too much; click on Sok (which means seek, search) enter the city name you want forecast for, it will offer you several locations, make sure you click on the right one (like Geneva Switzerland and not Geneva Ohio, Imola Italy not Imola California etc) and voila your forecast: https://www.yr.no/nb/værvarsel/daglig-tabell/2-2998808/Frankrike/Nouvelle-Aquitaine/Vienne/Le Vigeant You can enter almost any village anywhere and it will inform. An amazing site. I wish I could come!
Hopefully those who attended can post some photos of the classics and major other cars, thanks in advance!
It was really crowded - about 40,000 people attending, and hundreds of cars. I did not take many pictures, I'm sure there are people better than me for that, who will post here or somewhere else on the web. Anyway, I'm going to post a few, tentatively "organised".
Just one of the track activity: I did not want to change my tires before they were completely toasted; in spite of really many (I think, actually too many) cars on the track at the same time, mission accomplished: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Each year (apart from the Ferrari theme), there is a specific manufacturer exhibition - this year it was Peugeot (there was also a 905, as seen in the background, but I did not make a picture of it): Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
there were some really old Ferrari in the pits (including a 212), but I did not take pictures - instead, here are a few from the "exhibition" area, mixing old and new: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
We had a Jean Alesi Ferrari F1 besides the French FOC booth (and we were honored to have visits - and pictures, and signatures) with both Jean Alesi and René Arnoux): Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Finally, a picture of my car, just to give an idea of the "parking lot": Image Unavailable, Please Login
