Hey everybody, I have a few questions for you if you don't mind taking the time to answer them. I'm from St. Louis, a decent sized area, but it lacks the availablility of high end car rentals. Not even high end, but no 350Z convertibles, no Lotus. I know most of you probably aren't from the midwest or can already afford these vehicles, but regardless, would you be interested in something like this in your area? Thanks

    1. If available, would you rent sports/exotic cars for the weekend/week at a reasonable price?

    2. What would you consider to be a reasonable price?

    3. What is a reasonable amount of mileage to be put on car during the rental period?

    4. What types of cars would you be interested in?

    5. Would you support the company early on if you enjoyed the experience, recommend it to friends, and in turn the company may be able to purchase higher end vehciles to offer to its customers?

    6. Would you prefer exotic type vehicles or classic but reliable cars?

    7. Would you consider renting a car for events such as weddings, anniversaries, high school reunions?

All those are fair questions, but the direction you're heading towards has been done. Where there's a market, people are running operations like this. That's not to say that competition, done properly, can't succeed. But high-end car rental can be tricky and expensive.

All I know is if you can rent out a 430 for 99 bucks a day. You will make a fortune.

    Until it breaks!

I think you could make a killing if you rented a 430 or a 360 out for $500 a day. The volume would make up for the low rental price.

let me know when i can get my reservation in! but yeah, if you can throw down the money to buy a few of these cars, and charge a hell of a lot less than the competition, then your set. i was actually checking out prices a couple of days ago, for a 355, it cost 1500 a day, for 50 miles! for a new phantom, 5 grand! for 50 miles! just gotta find your niche market

Thanks for the replies, I would never want to break into the high-end car rental business in the St. Louis area. No market at all is available.

The more I think about this, I'm not thinking Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. I'm talking about the ability to rent a 350, C6, Lotus, S2000, etc. Something that yes you could go find it on a lot, but you may want more than the 5 mile pre-planned trip they have. Why spend $30k on a car when you can rent it for the weekend first and see if you really like it. Less expensive cars = less expensive rate, but still a fun time. YES, St. Louis, has NO market for high-end exotic cars.

While a Ferrari owner may be able to afford these or better, the average Joe may splurge on a fun ride for the week/end if it was at a decent rate. If I did this as a side thing and used it mostly for business, would I be able to write off part of the car as a business expense? I know someone on these forums said they use their car to drive grooms to the wedding, that idea is genius and totally untapped as far as I know in St. Louis.

I really need a job so I can become a contributing member and have access to the business section. I didn't realize finding a decent job (by that I mean 25k a year, w/ benefits) would be this hard for a college grad. Thanks

Who does this? That's brilliant, but I wonder how many grooms change their mind on the way to the church :)

I don't remember who it was, just that I saw it in one of his posts. I thought it was genius.

the wife hires it for the groom. I can imagine the scenario now.

*groom gets in car* "cool nice car"
Driver: "yeah it is cool. It is a Ferrari 360 modena."

    5 mins later

Groom: "So where are we going, and why am I dressed up"
    Driver:"to your wedding."
    Groom: "oh hell no!"
    *driver locks the door*

or maybe my imagination is too active :D

Dude, get the hell out of St. Louis. If your a college grad move anywhere in the country into a suburb of any major city and you can find a job that pays more than that with avalability for career growth. Keep hunting and good luck.

I wish I could oblige, but I am at least here until my wedding in May. After that, well the sky is the limit. I'm sure I can Google what cities are growing the fastest, best places to live, work, etc. and I will definitely look into this. In the meantime, what areas do you guys enjoy and think would be opportunisitic for someone my age?

    Thanks all

I can see it now call it

    Test Drive Rentals

Before you buy - drive it for a weekend to see if you like it.

Offer all the fun cars that people spend 35+ on

BMW 3's, 5's 7' etc. minis, honda s2000, etc charge $125 per day.

Millions to be made. This might work anywhere even St louis.

A small nugget of advice: find something that YOU enjoy and embark on your future. I like real estate. I think there are opportunities in real estate. I don't think that means real estate is the right career for you (maybe it is, but I don't know what you like).

Sorry when I said areas, I meant locations, not career movies. Thanks

I see, sorry about the confusion. I still think the same advice would hold true though. Your success will be determined more by the work you do than the location you choose. What factors are important to you in choosing a place to live? What type of career are you pursuing? A few more details there would allow people to give more insightful suggestions.
