I have reviewed a couple of threads on this subject but still do not see a straight and clear answer to the following question. Yes or no --- In sport mode when allowing the 430 F1 to shift itself at redline ---- does it actually reach the rev limiter? I believe the shift occurs before hitting the rev limiter, but not sure. The shift occurs so quickly and near redline. I cannot hear or see anything definitive. I understand in Race Mode it will hit the limiter but (as I beieve to be true) in Sport Mode it does not. Incidentally, during normal driving I shift around 5500RPM and rarely have a need to desire to wait longer. Best
was just discussing this issue 2 days ago with TK. i think the design is flawed. when in sport mode it SHOULD hit the rev limiter and stay there without upshifting by itself. my 997TT Tip does that...when in sport mode it will hit the rev limiter and will hold it till i upshift. it does not harm the engine as there is an overrev protection. that's what sport or in f's case race mode should be all about. the driver being in control and not the car taking control.
Appreciate response but still am not clear. The bottom line question is ---"Does the 430 hit rev limiter if left to shift for itself?" Incidentally, from everything I have learned, you do not want to be "banging" the rev limiter with any car. Not good for motor. Best
I am surprised so many 430 owners appear (from review of other threads) to "automatically" shift in Sport Mode. After reading the manual, discussing the matter with a service manager, and going over comments made by "rifledriver", it appears, in fact, the shift occurs "banging off the rev limiter". If so, this is not good. Best
What really happens when you allow the 430 to shift for itself? I decided to experiment with the help of a Ferrari Service manager. I had hoped, but nobody, seemed to know. So (at some risk) here is the story. The most important thing --- when shifting the rev limiter has not been touched. The computer "learns" your driving style and actually changes the shift point further up the rev range. If something goes wrong there is no missing a rev limiter contact - it disrupts fuel flow and "jerks" the car enough that you have to "stiff arm" to maintain your grip on steering wheel. There is also a loud enough noise that you will not mistake it for anything else. Best
I must have overlooked this thread. I have driven my F430 a few times on automatic mode and pulling the revs up to max, both on race mode and sport mode. The F430 does not have a rev limiter or the F430 electronics do not allow you to hit the rev limiter. The car always shifts automaticaly just at red line without any fuel disruption or rev limiting, but with a very strong jerk, not as smooth as when shifting with the paddles.
I have driven my car to the maximun rev limit in sports mode, and notice that the rev needle does bounce off the red zone before shifting by itself. Shift quality does seem to be a bit slurred instead of being sharp and immediate like when u pull the paddles instead.
