    My father owns a 94' Bertram 28'.

Pretty nice boats. Love the power of the twin V-8's.

And it's a screw drive. I think the newer ones are the outboard type ones...

hard to beat a Hatteras. one of the best sea kindly boats ever built on a production line.

a true battle wagon and a lot of bang for the buck...

Both are nice, but I'd give the nod to the Viking. It's pricey, but a good boat. There may be better bang-for-the-buck, though. All mentioned (Bertram, Hatteras, Post, Viking, etc.), and many that weren't, are great war wagons but I think the Viking has the nicest interior appointments. Pretty much all the layouts are similar, so it boils down to engine and electronics, fit and finish and aesthetics. Consider parts availability and service centers, too. I'd also argue that the warranty is very important, but it's only as good as the company that stands behind it. If you're in doubt do a couple of charters. Or, go to the boat shows. Fort Lauderdale is probably the biggest on the east coast. Don't know about the west coast shows.

Give me a convertible 50-60 footer outfitted with tuna tower, outriggers and a chair! Now that's a GREAT day on the water.
