I've been doing a lot of trap shooting recently and I'm planning a day trip with a buddy to either Thunder Mountain or Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays. Curious if anyone has been to both facilities? I'm going to go mid week since I understand both places are really crazy on the weekends. I thought I remember somebody on the board is a bird hunter.

Jim- FWIW, I think you'll find that many of the participants here are indeed bird hunters, but don't do so with a gun, usually avoid 'fowl,' and go to different clubs to locate their prey. :)

Jim...you are prob thinking of me. I have shot at Thunder Mtn, but only Skeet. Did not know they had a Clay's course. I have shot a few times at G&H's Farm up rt80. They have a very nice clay's course, but pretty expensive. Do you have a Blacks guide? I have not opened my 2005 yet, but should have all of the courses in the area. There used to be a good place in Sussex but would have to check. I would join you if you went.

BTW do you bird hunt? Trying to get out on a Sat if it ever stops raining. Need to get the dog into birds already.

    Adam,
I just stick to the clay birds, no real birds for me. My buddy that I shoot with belongs to a club just over the border in Monroe NY and has been getting his Brittany out around the weekend rains. I'm joining the small trap club in Fairfield off Rt 46 to get in a little more practice around lunch. I think you are right about Thunder Mountain only being skeet. I think we are going to head out to Lehigh the middle of next week. If you are around an interested in going let me know. Typically, I shoot bad to very bad. Here is the website for the course. http://www.lvsclays.com

I have never done this (only real birds) and would like to try it. I just picked up a new Bennelli Legacy and am dying to use it.

    Scott,
Did you check out the Lehigh website? http://www.lvsclays.com Where in NJ do you live? I think we should get Whart involved... I'm just worried about giving a lawyer a loaded gun...... Benelli makes some great guns. I'm picking up a Browning Citori Trap in the new few weeks. Since I'm probably going to do about 85% trap I'm going to put my money in an O/U and then pick up an 1100 for skeet and sporting or...maybe I'll throw in a few extra bucks and go with the Benelli.....

Jim...don't have the manual, as I have had my NJFL for a long time now. As for the gun to choose, I shoot Trap with a Browning BT99, but sometimes we shoot double trap and you need a good over / under. Let me know about next week and we can talk more about it.
