Say you started a business and it was beginning to boom. You don't want to rush out and buy a Lambo/Ferrari just yet, as your civic isn't exactly the best vehicle to pick clients up in.

But, you do want something sporty since you'll be driving it often.

Heres some contenders I came up with off the top of my head:

    --BMW M6
    --BMW M5
    --Maserati Quattroporte
--Bentley Continental GT (higher price bracket)
    --RR Phantom (higher price bracket)
    --BMW 745i
    --Mercedes S600

After thinking about it, I think the RR Phantom and the GT would be a little bit too much flash.

The M6 would be a great cadidate, but the legroom in the back would probably be cramped at best.

The M5 would be a could candidate, but I like another car more...

The Quattroporte. Would be my choice out of the list.

Curious to hear other peoples thoughts.

    95 Nissian Skyline R33 GTR.(Bone Stock)

The main reason why id go with that is because hardly nobody would know what kind of car it is excpet it wears a Nissian badge. Its sporty, Quick, Exotic yet concervtive. While everybody has there lexus, Mercedes,BMW or bentley, thats what the typical business person would drive. Knowbody would know what to think.

If my business is booming i want to be diffrent.

What business? Why and where are you taking clients?

I would choose none of the cars you listed.

My picks? LS430 or Detroit iron like a new Suburban. When I take clients out I'm not trying to find the line in a corner I'm trying to communicate with them. I find it hard to do that effectively with distractions like shifting and wind/tire noise. I don't drive aggressively with a client in the car, ever, it's not only bad business it's a stupid liability risk so I don't do it. When I'm taking a client out I want smooth, quiet and something that doesn't draw attention.

    No business, just thinking.

My thinking with the QP is that its a paddle, with an automatic mode (I think, could be wrong). When driving clients, the last thing on my mind would be driving aggressively. But it might prove a fun ride home.

Just bouncing ideas around here, nothing serious.

I'd go wth something from Lexus. Nice, but not flashy, depedable, minimal costs. Unlike German cars, where just because you can afford the car, it does not mean you can afford the upkeep. I think the Mercedes C series is a loss leader. Lure you in with a POS cheap car, them rob you blind when it breaks down.

For the price and poor quality of some of those cars, you might as well buy a Ferrari, it would be cheaper than the M cars in the long run.

People that know nothing about cars sometimes may see a BMW or Mercedes and think you're flaunting your wealth or overcompensating. Sometimes people see my 6 year old BMW and say 'oh gee you must be rich yada yada yada,' but then they're driving a brand new Ford Expedition that they paid $20k more than I did for my car. For me I'd prefer more of a sleeper car that the clients wouldn't associate with all things bling. Some good suggestions have already been made: Audi, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, Subaru Legacy, Caddy sedan (not Escalade). But if I had 70-80k to spend I'd get a 10k Camry and save the rest of the money to buy a second car for me (and not my clients).

I like your thinking Yoda. If I had 70-80k and thought like you, Id go buy a 20k Cadillac STS or something like that and then buy a care for me..

    good idea.

    Haha, tell me about it.

I was sitting here day dreaming about what I would do if a business of mine really took off. My first thought was: Buy a Ferrari!

Then I thought about it, and I would still have to use whatever I have now (Ford Explorer) to pick up clients. And was trying to find a middle ground. I still think I would pick the QP.

I think it would be hard to fit 2-3 clients in a 355 ;) But it would probably be fun to try!

It depends on who you are and why you're driving clients around. I think Tyler and Yoda have the right idea - you're not looking for the highest performance and you want a plush, quiet ride. I'd look for a lightly used LS430, Infiniti Q45, Audi A8L, Caddy STS. BMW and MB are great but often I think there is too much brand association that distorts people's view of you (my first two cars were an old MB and an old BMW, and I was continually surprised at the assumptions a sub-$3k car could give people).

If you're selling the client something a car like a QP could show that you're going to push them into something more expensive than they want. If you're selling them professional services it will make them think you're overcharging, unless they are so rich they don't care - but something I've found already is that there are some really rich people/companies who are absurdly stingy on professional fees. Of course, there are plenty who aren't, but safer is better. I think it's similar to what we addressed with the "Do you drive your Ferrari to work/jobsite" threads.

I don't like the status that comes along with a MB or a BMW. I would buy a Lexus LS. It makes you seem like less of a greedy bastard imo.
