The Automobile Club de l’Ouest has taken the decision to organise a new 1000 km endurance event under the Le Mans banner. It will take place on the Shanghai International Circuit in China on 1st and 2nd November 2008.

To make it happen the ACO has called upon the combined forces of entrants faithful to the Le Mans Series in Europe and the American Le Mans Series in the USA. Furthermore, Chinese partners and sponsors are directly involved in this project, which has already obtained the backing of major international motorcar manufacturers.
The size of the marketing budget and television coverage will make it one of the blue ribbon events of the 2008 motor racing season.

The Shanghai 1000 Kms prefigures the Asian Le Mans Series, which, in 2009, will include at least two events, one in China and one in Japan.

Entrants making this trip to Asia will be richly rewarded as the winners of the LM P1, LM P2, LM GT1 and LM GT2 categories will receive an automatic invitation for the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours.

This series is fantastic! The provisional entry list thus far for the Cataluyna 1000 KM in April is showing LMP1 = 18 LMP2 = 17 GT1 = 6 GT2 = 11. Lots of manufacturer variety in all classes. The new Welter P2 is like something out of Star Wars.

You can go to famous circuits - pay very little money - see Classic Endurance Racing, Formula Renault and more - have full track/paddock access - sit where you want - not to mention some of the very best fan friendly racing going!

I wondered why Allan was driving an Audi R10 in the streets of Shanghai back in November - now it all makes sense.
