My girl said something to me that made me go "hmmm.." She said, "Guys who are into cars usually aren't into sports and guys into sports usually aren't into cars...". She was talking about car nuts vs. sports nuts. Makes sense. Anyone here both big car nuts and sports nuts?
Both for me -- except I can't stand pro basketball I'm more of a car guy than sports guy though -- I'll choose the NASCAR race over a random football game
I'd agree with that statement, a recent meet here at a bar had 5 people watching the F1 race on the patio and 100 screaming guys in football jerseys inside the bar watching the ft ball game, they seem to get more involved and personal in the football games as well and take it very seriously vs the car guys shrug off the race and go for a spin in their cars unless we are talking Nascar of course
I like speed sports like auto racing, motorcycle racing, offshore racing, Baja, skiing etc Watching grown men play with their balls in public is not terribly interesting
I would guess that overall her statement is true. There will obviously be people who are very much into both, many of which you'll find on this board. Yet I do agree that the majority of the people I've met who are big into "ball sports" (for lack of a better term) aren't into cars. Car nuts tend to be into mortorsports for the most part.
It's a job. Gotta do what you're good at to maximize economic returns, even if it's not your favorite thing to do.
i am a huge sports fan and car fan. 50% of the day is spent online at fchat, 50% of my day is spent watching sportscenter. i am a huge cardinals fan, rams fan, bulls fan, blues fan, avid world cup fan, and i enjoy watching tennis, golf, and hell, i even watch competitive pool and ping pong, lol. but i am definitely a guy that loves both. just remember, half the game is 90% mental, yogi berra.
Car guy, but definitely not sports. OTOH, many of my friends are sports guys and could care less about cars.
As has been mentioned, its a balance. Certainly, cars take up a passionate spot in my life. However, hockey is another passion of mine (regardless of how pathetic I am at playing it). Sports in general....I'm just a frustrated athlete. I can play baseball, soccer, football, ping-pong, badminton, basketball, etc. I love 'em. Just not quite as much as cars.
Hard core car guy. I watch some sports (e.g. the Olympics, baseball playoffs, tennis) and a very loosely follow the San Diego chargers. But when I say watch, it means I'm home, bored, flipping on the TV, and there isn't much else on (and I've gone through all of my Tivo'd 5th gear, Sports Car revolution, etc.).
Both for me, too. As for sports: I like to play a lot of basketball. I watch pro and college basketball and football. I watch pro tennis a lot and definitely F1. I watch some NASCAR, PGA, NHRA, and MLB, but not much of those compared to the others.
I would say that I am definitely a car guy more than a sports guy. That being said, I still watch the Oakland A's baseball (especially post-season because it's the most time they are on in Arizona) and Oakland Raiders when I can. I don't consider Formula 1 a "sport" for a sport nut. I consider it a "motor enthusiast" sport, therefore it's more for car guys. So yeah, I basically fit the generalization, car guy not a sports guy. Although, I definitely am a car guy who loves music first and foremost.
Carguy here, don't give a rat's behind for spectator sports, never did. Only exceptions are that I keep up with what Cowboys are doing, can usually remember who won the previous week, and occasionally watch golf on tv...it's relaxing.
Sport nuts spend their time screaming at a television set. So I guess that puts me in the car nut catagory. I'll just get in the car and drive...during the Superbowl, World Series all the nutcases(haha ) are packed in sports bars or in their homes. The roads are clear.
I'm not a guy... but I'm into both cars as well as "some" sports.. mainly football. I also enjoy fishing, playing guitar, and other "guy" type things
Like people have said its a balance, and it depends on what you consider a nut. As an athlete I grew up interested in sports but as I have gotten more into cars I find I spend much less time watching random sports on TV, although this may have more to do with growing up rather than getting into cars. That said I deffinately would consider myself a sports nut on certain topics. I am a rabid redskins fan, rub it in, and follow both club level and international soccer.
