    HEY GANG:

I stopped in to see these folks a few weeks ago at Pinehurst NC with Luca to drop off his 280SL, and wanted to share a few pictures.

This is one of the best of it's kind in the country. They're great folks to work with as well. I highly recomend them if you are in need of any of the services listed below.

AC Ace. A great car that's been under-appreciated....until recently.

A very crazy story about the ACE. There were two on a rally out of about 60 cars, and both hit deer. The front on this one was replaced by Warren, who also did much of the work on the Ralph Lauren collection as well as many other great cars.

This is good to know. We bought some property SE of Asheville and have been wondering where to get the cars (330GTC and 914/6) serviced, if we ever move there full time.

David -- thanks for sharing resources like that. But in your post you stated,
Have you had them do work for your car(s) personally or directly for people you know personally? I presume so, since yo'ure endorsing them, but I'm interested in your actual experience with them.

The AC is owned by a gentlemen who's got a lovely "chairs and flares" Dino, too. Super nice fellow.

Bjorn has a nice shop. He's a great asset and supporter of the Ferrari Club locally. One of many in North Carolina.

Good point Mike, my friends 280 is there now, and I personally visited the shop. I have no problem recomending them to anyone at this point although everyone should do their own homework. That being said, you should see the job they did on Coach I's steering wheel. It was amazing, considering the Daytona wheel was broken in one of the spokes. Warren personally did much work for Paul Russell regarding the Ralph Lauren collection according to his own account and he showed me pictures of him putting on the Buggatti body. We've all had, or have heard our share of horror stories with this type of work. By all means, maybe you should see them and judge for yourself...When you are in Pinehurst you should stop by, come out and join us for a long drive on the green.

No sweat, David! We all have a lot of fun and are fortunate enought to do what we love for a living. I remember when Steve Barney sold the NART Spider to Lauren, must have been mid-1980's. We all thought the price was through the stratosphere. Little did we know! <grin> I remember Lauren's Type 57SC winning Pebble Beach, which put the spotlight on Russell and his talented crew.

Bjorn and his staff do great work. Thanks for recognizing them and for the pics.

yes peter's shop has been known to maintain some pretty precious metal including an ex bruno giacomelli alfa romeo f-1 car...12 cyls of magic!!

actually, another one of the very, very best ferrari resto shops is also up the road in virginia...david carte principle. has a few pebble's under his belt.

if my boxer ever needs a resto, krause or carte will do or oversee if i have my way.

David Carte is surely one of the best in the country for Pebble Beach-bound Ferrari restorations. Along with Bob Smith, Wayne Sparling, Steve Tillack and many others, David is particularly well known for his cosmetic work on older cars, panel repair, paint and trim. David farms most of the major mechanical work out to Chuck Wray in Laurel, Maryland, I believe.

Like Chuck, I specialize in the mechanical overhaul, maintenance and repair of all Ferraris, particularly older (pre-'90) cars owned by those who wish to drive their cars regularly. I farm my panel and paintwork to Malcolm Mangum (who's done most of Chris Cox's local cars) at Automotive Collision Specialists, in Fuquay-Varina.

Appreciate the compliment, Peter. Glad to see you enjoying the Boxer! Back to the wonderful thread and pictures of Bjorn's shop!

    -Peter
