    Very cool; thanks for posting.

I recall reading about "mullet" in one of the car mags. Might have been an article about one of the airstrip events; I'd love to know his backstory.

    Found the article: http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/driven/1101_the_texas_mile/index.html

I think this is him, not as much Billy Ray Cyrus as I expected (pics from above link)...

Excellent pics! Thanks for posting! I really thought I was gonna be out for TX2K11 this year but work got in the way. Maybe next year!!

How was it? I've never been. Would you go again? Give us some POV event experience! Even if I have to work my tail off I can still live vicariously!

I think the main 1 mile event is this coming weekend. You still have time, but you don't want to look like a slacker.. you need to get to Underground for that TT first like we talked about in that dyno thread.

The Mile is this coming weekend. I already decided I can't make that one either (WAF was very low). Maybe one of the later Mile events this year might be doable if I can keep a clear calendar. Would like to go at least once before they finally decide to shut down that airstrip and move the event further away.

Well, I can say it really wasn't my crowd. I felt sorry for some of the peeps staying at the hotel that weren't involved in the event. People doing burnouts in the parking garage, loud cars coming and going at all hours, revving engines. The event has sort of turned from the Supra nationals to the Superbowl of street racing. Plenty of young guys in 1000hp vettes and firebirds etc. The event attracts all people to the hotel from around the area that aren't guests and it gets kind of wild. A 1000whp trans am crashed into a pole in front of a car dealership and almost wiped out a entire row of GMC trucks. Saw a few cars get towed and peeps arrested for street racing on I-10. Kind of looks suspicious when 200 crazy sports cars are going up the interstate in a group at 2 am. The young street racing guys from NOLA that went were pretty cool. My buddy that went with me is friends with all of them. They were puzzled by the fact that I would own a GT-R and not street race with them but they were all nice about it. I've got too much to lose to get out there with them and risk getting in serious trouble.

It was fun going to see all of the cars I had been seeing on the internet and in vids for the past couple of years. I wanted to check out the GT-R's from the top tuners and I got to do that. I expected a few more pcars and exotics but I still had fun.

I would definitely go back though especially if we could get together a group from around here that didn't care as much about street racing and wanted to hang out at night and chill.

Thanks for that! I love reading the first-hand experiences. Helps me sort out the fun events from the weak ones.

I'm with ya too. I avoid the scenes like that when they get out of hand. I prefer to keep my street fun on the D/L.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the young crowd. I couldn't get a sense of scope of how many forums the TX2K11 had been advertised upon. For a while I thought it would be exotics-only but then I learned of the Supra history and figured it would be a free-for-all. Nothing wrong with that, just makes it rowdy!

Sucks about the carelessness folks were showing. That will end the event real quick. I had heard though that the "main action" occurred after hours on the highways. Always some shenanigans expected though.

It's funny how you describe it is fairly close to what I pictured. "Race Wars" basically. :D

Mainly I'd want to go just to see the cars, put faces to names, and just kick back and enjoy the event. The after hours stuff sounds fun if I'm on ride-along/cop-spotting duty. But I wouldn't do any of this in my own ride.
