    Saw it ~20mins ago on Beverly heading West ~1mi. East of Rossmore. It looked to be Sterling Grey and still had the camouflage tape along the bottom. I only managed a quick glance, so I can't relay very much detail.

    I couldn't hear it at all, so no opinion on the sound. However, the front looked much better than it did in the photos (maybe b/c the black tape obscured the front air dam) while the rear is IMHO still a disaster.

    Has anyone else here spotted this car running around LA recently?

    Not the M5, but I did see an E90 on PCH back in October and the restyled 7 up on the canyon roads above Malibu, all of this in October 04. I guess BMW likes the LA area for testing new vehicles.

    I saw it out in westlake a couple of weeks ago. It was a black one with tape on it.

    That is correct. Saw the Z4 being hot weather tested in Victorville about 6 months before it came out. It was fugly then.

    They also were testing their X5 (quite a while back) on the 118 around Moorpark and also on the 14th north by the Lancaster outlet. Saw them a few times.

    They have a design and test center in Camarrilo.

    I saw them pretty frequently in Aug-Oct '04, but haven't spotted one recently.

    Additionally, I also witnessed an E60 M5 racing a E46 M3 down PCH with an M6 behind us. I'll leave you guys to speculate as to which car won. ;) I tried to chase but they actually used some pretty sneaky tricks to lose me.. the M3 blocked the right turn lane in front of me, the M5 made the right and the M6 cut through a parking lot before the turn. By the time I got through all three had disappeared.

    Supposedly the BMW guys also like to take these out on the 118 freeway late night (for more, ahem, spirited drives) but I haven't confirmed it with my own eyes yet.

    I swear to god I saw one in Manhattan Beach not too long ago, but looked like a testing model (and was getting followed by a couple other BMWs)...

    Correct. I had a small office of Central (101) right north of the Camarillo outlet, and saw them out there often.

    I got caught between a three-car caravan of these things on Agoura road between Westlake blvd and Cheseboro rd today.

    I tried to egg them on to no avail.. maybe they were just scared of the Slomaro, I'm not sure. ;)

    I got next to one months ago in the Maranello. We did a little light to light thing and ran even for about two miles in traffic.

    Sweet! I glanced at my digicam before I left the house and thought "nah.. I won't need it".. I was halfway tempted to follow them through Malibu canyon but decided that it was basically mental masturbation to do so without photographic proof.
