We have Portland/Bend threads, but nothing beyond? (Mods, merge with a general spotting thread I may have overlooked.) Hmmm, I wonder what's under here? -Springfield Oregon I see this TR at a home improvement retailer often, must be the owner daily driver? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Seems odd that someone would drive their car, park it, and cover it just while parked for the day, and do it over and over. I've seen anal behavior, but if that's what's going on he's near the top of the class. Oh well, at least he isn't taking up two parking spaces, like some do.
I wouldn't be so harsh. Maybe he wants to protect the leather from the sun, or he's parked under trees with lots of bird droppings, etc.
"The sun?" It's winter. The pic shows no trees hanging over the car. My point: it's just a car, not a priceless art object. Coddling these cars is, unfortunately, a self-reinforcing path to OCD behavior. Of course he can cover it if he chooses, but really, why bother, unless the car will be left outside for an extended period of time? If he fears rain, he shouldn't drive it if rain is forecast. If he fears leather shrinkage, he shouldn't park it on warm, sunny days. I am not trying to insult the fellow, I am only trying to understand his true motivation.
The true motivation is he PROBABLY loves his car and wants to do whatever he can to keep it looking good and not deteriorate. I TOTALLY understand the motivation to cover a car if it's gonna sit outside for the day. The leather in the dash shrinks and once it does, is MUCH harder to get fixed. An ounce of caution is worth a pound of cure. The sun even in winter is not NICE to cars. I have to assume Mr V doesn't have a car worth caring about.
That would be my car... I do keep it covered at work, belive me I would like nothing more than to look acoss the lot and see it. Most people that I work with think I am crazy to park it there. We have alot of car break-ins at that lot. But I always tell them it is a car and meant to be drivin. The cover is one deterent to theft and if they lift it myself or someone else at work will notice and notify me. Also I love my car and want to keep the sun off the paint and dash. I am very friendly with my car and love to let people look and touch yes touch. I give anyone that asks a ride, take pictures behind the wheel etc... I drive it any day there is a forecast without rain but I have been caught in a light shower or two (it washes off ). A forcast for sunshine in Oregon (especially this year) can be alot of days. Lets face it people can and will mess with these kind of cars especially large parking lots. I bought this car for pleasure and intend to enjoy it, however it is also an investment that I need to protect as well. People can make assumptions about anything, we could say anyone not covering it just wants the attention or to rub it in your face. Fact is until you know the peron you just don't know. Anyway I think that explains my actions a little.
I cover my Ferrari only to keep dust off, and only when it is clean and parked in my garage during the winter, while the weather is inclement. The idea of covering it outdoors after driving it, especially here in the PNW, is contrary to my way of thinking. It seems to me that covering a car outdoors after driving it is a recipe for scratching the finish, via road dirt being rubbed across the paint by the car cover. But I can certainly relate to someone taking pride of ownership.
You are smart to cover it outside at all times of the year! I am the original owner of a 25 year old car and I cover it when I have to park it outside all day. All the exterior rubber seals and interior on that car are like new. Over time UV rays absolutely kill rubber, leather, plastic, you name it. UV happens whether it is sunny or overcast. Up to 80% of UV can pass through clouds. Don't let anyone hassle you about it.
A clean Grigio Silverstone California today with Pacific Wonderland plates, heading up the 126. Annoying slow-pokes getting in his way. Perhaps heading to Bend for service
