Prior to mid-2002, car taxes in Singapore amounted to 174%. Since then, they have dropped twice and are now 110%. One also has to purchase a permit that allows the car to be driven on the road for 10 years (called a COE - Ceritifcate of Entitlement). COE prices currently cost about US$ 20k.

What affect did the reduction of taxes have on the sales of super cars in Singapore? Did the people wait for the taxes to come down then buy, or did they buy anyway? A 360 Modena costs about 16.5 milllion Baht new what is the price there? The tax here is about 320% But there are rumours that the car taxes may be reduced here also.

The tax system for cars in Singapore is a fairly complicated one. Yes, we do pay fairly high taxes but the government also gives tax rebates for cars that are de-registered before they reach 10 years old. The rebate varies with the age of the car and is a function of the original imported price of the vehicle. When the tax rate was reduced, the rebate dropped even further for cars coming under the new tax scheme so over a 5-year usage period for example, the total depreciation of the car might not be very different whether the car was purchased pre or post tax reduction. Also, once the tax reduction was announced, it took almost immediate effect so people didn't really have the luxury of waiting for the tax drop before purchasing their car.

I believe a brand new 360 currently costs around 400k US$ in Singapore.

 

That is cheap, about the same price of a 360Modena in Jakarta.
Everything should be pricy in S'pore, for example a Honda Odyssey and Honda City is almost twice the price in S'pore compared to Jakarta.

 

I guess the prices in S'pore & Indonesia is the same as in BKK. May be one day we will be able to enjoy English pricess!
