I was under the car yesterday, putting on the coolant pipes I refinishes and coolant hoses and I noticed a subtle leak developing at, both, the engine and tranny sump covers.

I did take some cleaning solutions (mostly Simple Green) to clean up under there (there was never a leak before, just incredibly filthy).

Is is possible I have compromised the seal at the gasket?

I did the same cleaning on the engine head covers.
Do I have to be concerned about a potential geyser of oil spewing out, on to the engine, probably causing a fire whilst driving?

I can't imagine pulling off the covers (tranny and engine sumps, heads) and replacing the gasket + seal is that difficult... or, is that a rookies mind "working"?

    Please advise.

    Thanks!!

Doc, what's leaking oil or gear oil or coolant?

Caked on grease and road grunge can be an amazingly effective "Stop Leak" sometimes :)

If it's leaking with a cold engine, and without the engine running, it'll probably only get worse when the fluid heats up, thins out, and is under pressure.

Wouldn't think you'd have a geyser kind of leak, but I'd definitely keep an eye on it and for puddles wherever you park, and perhaps carry a spare quart or two of whatever is leaking until you get it sorted.
