I know this general topic has been covered dozens of times (and I've read most if not all of the threads), but one thing seems to be assumed since it's not been specified in all of the detailed instructions I've seen: When checking the hydraulic fluid in the 355 Spyder top, this is done with the top DOWN, correct?

Sorry for what's probably an obvious question, but I searched the forum and couldn't find a clear answer. Also, I don't know if it makes a difference in the fluid level if the top is up or down when checked.

    Thanks in advance for clarifying.

My mechanic checked my F355 Spider while the top was up.

It doesn't matter. Just make sure it's full. There is a recent thread on the procedure to do this if you are unsure.

Thanks again, folks. I followed the instructions posted here on how to fill the reservoir (mine was almost empty - - below minimum mark!). I did it with the top up (although it evidently doesn't make any difference). Used the recommended Mercedes hydraulic fluid - - was $17 for a quart at my local Benz dealer.
