So, I was just reading on the F1 website about Ferrari's engine supply deal: Ferrari to continue dual engine supply deal to 2009 http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2007/10/7039.html "Ferrari have received permission from the World Motor Sport Council to continue to supply two teams with its customer engines for the 2008 and 2009 championships, it was revealed on Wednesday. The original regulations for 2008 limited teams to supplying just one other squad. Toro Rosso swapped to Ferrari power in 2007, after they had used rev-limited V10 units from Cosworth in 2006. Ferrari also supplied engines to Spyker this season. Both teams are expected to continue to use the Italian squads units next season." I guess STR and Spyker will both continue to use the Ferrari engines, even though Scuderia Ferrari won, while STR and Spkyer were left at the very bottom of the rankings. Do you think that either of the teams will see any success in the coming years? With Spyker's new ownership (Force India!), do you expect any improvements for 2008, or will the new owners need more time to get settled in? ~shahedc .
Force India is trying to get the current Ferrari gearbox. The engineers have speculated on an increase of 1 second per lap with the new gearbox and inproved aerodynamics. The new owners are on the way to evaluate the team.
The engines are only part of the equation. Outright speed and power will only get you so far. Assuming the engines supplied to STR and Spyker are the same as the F2007 engine, of course.
Would this be legal? (I don't think it will happen, just wondering... ) On a side note, it will be interesting to see how the Ferrari's do in A1GP, if everyone uses the same car, as in Honda's entries in Indy. ~shahedc .
No, it probably won't help much. Maybe over the long haul, but it seems like these days the engines are fairly equal, and aero/mechanical/driving are of greater significance. Speaking of which, since when do 10 year-olds get to choose the name for a Formula One team?
