In for a ride in the little beasty impressive, fast, some things are kinda odd but overall seemed very tight and responsive. Watch CW33 News at 9 they were there covering it too
Would you believe my camera is in the shop? after almost 100,000 images it said NO MORE.... Bits on order Week downtime
RC and I went and checked it out last week... that car is biitchin' if you ask me. In photographs, not so much, but in person, it's a beauty.
When I was up there over the Texas Track & Concorso weekend, I stopped in. I was actually across the street at Bentley when I noticed a very un-Aston-Martin-ish looking car in their showroom. Lo-and-behold, they are the new Spyker dealer. Should only be a matter of time before Houston gets one, eh?
They are planning on a second dealer in Texas... But not for a long time. Remeber this company only plans to build 100 cars world wide this YEAR park place sells that many MB per month...
Thanks for the info. I have it on good authority that Park Place sells a few more than 100 new MB's per month, though. Seriously, not to correct you *steps back into my place*.....I really do appreciate the info. You're the man, you know that?
Saturday they had three. They were shooting a commercial (I guess). Nice color combo's. And of course I took no pictures. Where is the "this thread is useless without pictures" card?
I drove the C8 Saturday afternoon and was pretty impressed. It is unabashedly an "ultimate automotive fashion accessory," but the 8,000-mile demo was tight and responsive, with a number of race-car features, such as non-power tandem master cylinders and AP brakes, rocker arm suspension with inboard shocks, and nice cooling duct work on the nose. I did not flog the car, but the handling and power are very good, with nice ergonomics in driving position. The gear shift is outstanding, nice pedal placement, just plain impressive overall. The exhaust has a loud "sport" mode, like the 911. The top is probably an emergency affair and this car is not about practicality in the least. There is simply nothing else like it, sort of a Faberge of cars, with details galore and very good driving dynamics from my short test drive. The fortunate few that have these cars will have something truly unique, that appears robust and non-intimidating to drive.
Keith Agreed 100% on all points. The Brakes are like trying to squish a brick the pedal is HARD but it grabs a whole lot of stoppie when needed. I like the feel of the car but that soft top (when down) makes one wonder why they even bothered having a center rear view mirror... Overall very impressed but it really IS a driver's car, and with only 100 including hardtop, suv, 12 spyder, 12 coupe et all being built this year the exclusivity AND being a pure driving experince should be a unique vehicle for the ultra rich car nut...
I enjoyed my test drive on Saturday, although I must admit I drove it more conservatively than my Grandmother would have. The weather was perfect for some top down driving. There is no rearward visibility with the top retracted (I'm told many owners remove the top completely). It was quite easy to drive, as one would expect with the Audi drivetrain. The turning radius is surprisingly large for such a small car, could not successfully pull it out of the dealership and turn into the far lane of two lanes without getting into the oncoming traffic lane a bit. Overall, quite impressed and left me wishing I had a little more (OK, a lot more) cash in the bank. I do have some pics that I could e-mail to someone if interested (my Internet picture posting skills are non-existent). The Spyker rep who was there did not mention another Texas dealership when I asked what their expansion plans were. John
John, my info was from the director of North American operations for Spyker (the Manufacturer) Not for the John Eagle Dealership group (the Franchisee). They are great, among the best in DFW.
We saw several Spykers on display behind the pit area at Le Mans this past June. Different - shifting mechanism reminded me of a beer tap. Carol
