I posted in the "Winter Spotted thread" a mention that I saw a couple of brand new Spyker Spyders down in Scottsdale, Arizona while we were out there on Vacation. Thought best to just put it in a new thread.

Check it out! I think that it's a really cool little car. But very small! We saw them at "Motorsports of Scottsdale". One was inside, and one was outside. They do not allow you to take any photos of the cars inside the store- "for security reasons....." But they couldn't stop me from taking a few pix outside.

Most of the pix that I took are in higher res., so I will need to resize them in order to, post here. But here are a couple that I took in a lower resolution.

Take a looksee....Nice little car, but very small....almost Mazda Miata size territory! I mean, look at the very small space between the seats!

I saw them 3 years ago @ Monterrey.
Saw one last summer at the Audi Exchange.
Sports Car International just did an article ... list for about 300K.
Interesting cars... but 300K ? It has the previous Audi S4 engine, and some of the other bits come right out of Audi's parts bin.
SCI claims they made 100 in 2006, and have 300 orders, most for the US.

I agree. 300K is way over priced. 150K maybe..

LFSC sold one or two IIRC, and I saw them in Monterey in 06 as well. They're sharp and a fresh face to the exotic world, just a tad bit expensive..

If I'm not mistaken, I think I saw one of those in Kirk Rd. right by the Chicago Outlet Mall.

Had one. It is gone now. They are just way too expensive for what you get. They sound good and they have a lot of unique features, but, I would be shocked if Spyker has as many orders as they say. That same car FVMC had has been floating around to different stores for a little while now.

in the world of "exotics", you could dislike Ferrari for their sales crapola, or feel that (depending on your neighborhood) that "everyone has one", Lambos are cool, but you do see them around. A Spyker... few have seen one, let alone driven one. If you gotta be that "original"...
Obviously, those who buy them have an incredible amount of disposable income, and 300K ain't gonna make a big dent in that pile of cash.

Funny nobody mentions the relationship to Ferrari:

Spyker has a F1 team (ex Jordan, ex Midland) that uses Ferrari engines this year. And the rumor is, that Spyker will eventually have Ferrari engines in its roadcars as well. How sweet is that?

Sounds to me that Ferrari has replaced its entry level company Maserati with Spyker. Looking at the pics below I say right on!

In Europe they call Spyker already the "Tulip Ferrari".

The cars cost more than any current production Ferrari. How would that be an entry level company, not to mention the fact they have no financial relationship with Ferrari whatsoever? I mean, Sauber used Ferrari engines also. Not sure that that has one thing to do with the road cars. I think the most interesting feature of the Spyker is the interior design. That HAS to be expensive to produce.

Cool! I love Spykers. They are more like $250k than 300 though aren't they? I think that's a little more reasonable...

It's actually is closer to $300k. The MSRP of the car we had a FVMC was $296,xxx. I've seen them msrp as high as 320k; Though, I'm not exactly sure what the options are to have such huge differences in msrp.

Could that have been the C12 instead of the C8?

Yeah, it could have been. That explains the price swings.

That comparison makes no sense: Before Sauber there was Prost and Minardi, all with F1 engines from Ferrari. But none of those companies made any road cars. Neither does Toro Rosso btw.

The point is, that Spyker works with Ferrari in F1 AND builds very cool sportscars so there is the hope that they might work together. Kinda like Lancia first had a racing connection with Ferrari and then a roadcar program.

Well, perhaps the comparison is invalid, but I think there is a big difference in selling your racing engines, which Ferrari has done in the past, or selling your street engines to a company with little history (I'm talking about the current company, not the name) making a competing road car, not that I really believe that the overpriced awkwardly designed Spyker (IMHO, of course) will ever compete with Ferrari. The Panoz is positively elegant by comparison, the company has an actual racing pedigree at this point, and they haven't exactly set the world's market afire. And I guess I was wrong about the pricing, but they're still more than an F430 making the "entry level" idea far-fetched. And your contrast to Maserati is quizzical to me when you consider that Ferrari actually OWNED Maserati before it dumped it back on Fiat. I don't know who owns Spyker now but my guess is it's just some ultra-rich guy with an ego (that and the government of Dubai; see http://www.spykercars.com/?pag=51) who resurrected a decades old name which ceased production in 1925 to produce his version of a supercar, and had the money to buy an F1 team to boot. How long has Spyker been in the international marketplace? According to my reading of the website, models were first shown in 2000.

Anyway, all of this is just my opinion, and I am not exactly an expert in automotive marketing. It just makes no sense to me whatsoever. YMMV.

Sounds a lot like AC, Audi and Bugatti, doesn't it? Oh no wait, none of those actually manages/dares to play in the top league of motorsports. They rather play it safe in the sandbox of LeMans or not at all.

I saw four of them at the same Scottsdale location last week. One outside and three on the showroom floor. Nice old school details, and a good everall look to the car IMHO. There is a test article in the new Road and Track. Probably too pricey for what you get, but a good car anyways.

For that price tag, I would never consider one. The styling is a little weird to me.
