When operating the top (usually only when putting it down) there is a moment about half way through the process where there is a loud chirp/squeak, like metal that needs grease. It’s not on every cycle, but at least half of the time. I added white lithium grease to the metal track areas around the flaps where most the action seems to take place, but I’m wondering if anyone else knows other spots to grease regularly on these 360/430 spider tops?
Has anyone else had this squeak? I’m also hoping it’s what I suspect it is, some friction, and not anything else problematic. The top is in great shape otherwise.

Knocking on wood (toc toc)...did you consider the possibility of some hydraulic piston starting to fail?

My advice: DO NOT IGNORE weird sounds or strange actions by your capote. It's horrendously expensive and difficult to fix these things so make sure your capote is always working perfectly. If not, get it fixed sooner than later. Ugly problems don't get any better with age.

I don’t disagree! I have had the top three cylinders rebuilt, I have a new canvas and headliner, I have replaced the flaps with the better made aftermarket parts… everything else seems fine. It’s literally just a squeak. I just figured out where the squeak is coming from now as well… It’s the hinges on the tonneau cover. So when that cover:lid opens up, it does a quick squeak/chirp like a door hinge. I can tell from the coloration that it normally is greased, but it’s pretty dried up there. I just applied the spray-on white lithium grease, ran it a second time, no more squeak.

But to your point, even though it may seem like “just a squeak,” if left ignored, I know that little bit of extra friction on that hinge could make the whole system work harder and cause other issues.

So I will just have to make sure I set a reminder to grease these hinges along with the other moving parts on a regular basis.

Also, I always check the hydraulic fluid every 2 months. That way if it’s getting notably lower, I know I have a leak somewhere.

Btw, aren’t you the guy who was working on a hard top? I was super interested in that… I always say, I’d love to make this whole top manually operated…
