Squealing belts

According to the service manual, the '84 QV came with one belt or two belts (separate water pump and alternator). Does anyone know if the 2 belt setup can be retrofit to the '81 2V engine? Crank pulley, waterpump (or just the pulley) and idler, alternator (or just the pulley).

 

It's doable, but it takes some fairly significant hard parts that might be tough to find and/or expensive (e.g., it requires a different cam belt cover on the 1-4 bank to mount the idler pulley for the water pump only belt). See this thread:

Thanks very much for the info. I will try to find a retrofit kit, but it seems like a long shot.
