Hi, Is there any kind of "Ferrari Club" in the St. Louis area? I am from Virginia & will be moving sometime in the next 1-4 months..... We have a great bunch of guys here..... get together for Coffee or lunch once in a while.... occasional ride to the country. Also, what is there in the way of Dealers / Mechanics out there? thanks! Keith
yes, there is. the fca is active in this region, with a number of events throughout the year, and a lot of great people. as far as mechanics and dealerships go, there are a few different options, bentley st. louis, which is ferrari service authorized, reid vann, and i seem to think there's another, but i can't think of the name of the place. anyways, welcome to town!
Thanks for the info! I was there this past weekend to poke around... great weather.... cool city! I "think" I will be there between Feb & March...but possibly later. Keith
sounds good. i hate to say it, but this past weekend we kind of had fluke weather, keep in mind it'll change daily here, , also remember that it ain't the heat that'll get you, it's the humidity. anyways, welcome to st. louis!
yes, check out this thread of a drive we did over the summer: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157018
Keith, Welcome in advance. Look forward to drivin with you. Were in VA ya comin in from? Northern? Richmond or the hills? When I travel to DC I do the F1 breakfasts in Arlington. I'd love to find a place here in STL to do F1 race breakfasts! There are alot of drives available here. The local FCA chapter is active, the lotus club is busy the St. Louis Sports car club is too. The NSX and Porsche guys are all gr8 too. There are plenty of local cars shows as well. I'd say we all play well together. What color is your 308? Love to see a pix of it. Dave
MDJ : Why would you say that ? Feel free to PM me, I have been taking my "F" car to them and have had good luck with them so far, is it purely luck ? something I should know about ? Thanks
I would like to know this as well. This is the first I've heard about a dissatisfied customer out of GLB.
maybe its a porsche thing, got a porsche goto Reid Vann,i do see alot of Ferrari's sitting at GLB waiting to get worked on now that i think about it. If you trust Bob at GLB there is no reson to go elsewhere.I have become freinds with Jon at Reid Vann, and see him at the track on PCA trackdays,he also instructed my father on a D.E. day.my bad for talking down GLB sorry.tim
I grew up in St Louis (Clayton 65!) and Moved to L.A. in '71. I get back to St Louis once a year or so. It's a great town. Very friendly down-to-earth folks, great food, (best Pizza in the country) sports, museums, Forest Park, and beautiful suburbs. And, it has Steak 'N Shake!!! (not to mention you-know-what Castle!!!!)
. i'll never forget the 1 and only time clayton helped ladue, back in 02 or 03 you guys used an ineligible player on your football team, our only loss that year was to clayton, so thanks to your guys' having to forfeit all games, we got into the playoffs. we made it all the way to the state game, only to get a whooping by kearney (kc) something like 49-7, but it was fun anyway.
I see the rivalry still exists...but I am not surprised. When I was in CHS, both football teams were pretty bad, but CHS was on top of the world in..............water polo! O well, I can still say "go greyhounds".
I have to admit not growing up in STL has made me partial to New York Style pizza. Soft chewy crust with big bubbles in it and lots of sauce and mozzarella cheese. STL pizza is like cheese food on a saltine cracker. I have to go with Mazzios downtown or unfortunately sbarro. If I have to eat stl style, I do like the pizzas at joanies in soulard and guidos on the hill.
One of our (wife and I) favorite short drive outings for pizza is Dewey's in Clayton. They are also in Kirkwood (where I gre up, man has it changed). Their Caprice pizza is amazing (and I don't even like tomatoes much) and so is their Meatball (or is it their sausage...hmmm too late at night to remember, been a really long couple of days). When family comes into town it's one of the first places they want to go eat.
Indigo and Aseweepay, Sorry it took so long to respond. As FatCab said it might be a Porsche thing, but not because I preferred where to bring my car. It was how the work was performed on the car. I own a '78 Porsche 930. I brought the car to GLB three times. The first two times were smaller jobs and I was happy with the work. The third time was about four years ago. I had them replace the clutch, brakes, bearing in the steering column, and look into some heating issues. When I picked the car up, there was a torn seat, a dent in the fender, and the steering wheel wasn't put on straight. I confronted Bob about it, he told me they were old cars and that seats will get torn when you kneel on them. The steering wheel they fixed and the dent they wouldn't acknowledge and the seat they told me they would give me discount the next time I brought the car in. I left uphappy, but unfortuneately this was the beginning of their shotty work. Shortly after, I dropped the car off to have it painted (the paint was rather rough looking, the interior wasn't bad though, just the dash and now the seat). After having the car repainted I drove it to Imagine Auto in Kansas for a complete rebuild of the engine, upgrade some components and rebuild the transmission. I was informed immediately upon dropping the engine that the engine had been reinstalled without all the bolts to the engine pan and it was missing a transmission mount bolt. At this point I knew it would be fixed, but this should have never been installed this way by GLB. They had the engine and transmission out of the car and put it back without all the bolts. During the re-install of the transmission to the engine, IA noticed large cracks in the flywheel, so bad that they refused to reinstall the flywheel. Steven Kasper informed me in a rather angry tone that this never should have been put back and he felt that myself or anyone else riding in my car were in danger of the flywheel coming apart. It was past the point of being resurfaced. If you have a nice car, maybe they will perform good work. My car at that time was rough and the work was not only poor, but put myself and others in danger. I would never use them again and would not recommend them to anyone who values their safety and car. If anybody has any more questions, feel free to PM me. I'll give you my phone number. Good luck! Mike
Thats unfortunate and dosen't sound like the GLB that I know. I've known them for years and you are one of the few complaints that I have heard about them. No shop is perfect. I know that first hand.
