As of yesterday the entry list has only 16 cars. P1 - 3 P2 - 3 GT2 - 10 What is so sad is that this is only a ONE HOUR - FORTY MINUTE race....a sprint from the get-go. Race time is from 1:20 pm to 3:15 pm on Saturday. Carol
http://www.planetlemans.com/alms-2009-st-petersburg-entry-list/ small field, but it is also a small track.
The sis-n-law lives just outside Tampa and tried to get us down again for this one again, but just can't make it happen this year. We'll be there in spirit while watching on the TV.
I'm not a huge fan of the street circuits, but will be watching St. Pete on TV as it's such a beautiful location. Personally I'd be in favor of the ALMS dropping all the street races and go to an all dedicated road track lineup (I'd love for them to bring the series to VIR! If Grand AM can do it, so can they.) Didn't Houston fall off the schedule this year? Now that's a street course that I absolutely loathe to watch. Gary
Gary, Houston has been off the schedule for several years now - was easy for us as it's just over a three hour drive to there. I too am not a fan of street circuits, especially in light of many other real quality tracks in the US. The street circuits are horrible for spectators to view, acccess is not good (we went to the one at Belle Isle couple years back and watched the race in the Corvette display on their big screen tv's). I hardly call a 1h40m Long Beach or 1h55m St. Pete race endurance racing, it makes a mockery of endurance racing. VIR, Barber are only two of several good locations out there, of late there's been many positives about Barber. This weekend's ALMS race will be a GT race, I suspect the pole sitter very well may be the race winner. We'll be in Barcelona this weekend for the LMS race but will follow the ALMS race on our iPhone internet - IMSA live timing and RLM (each phone on a different site!) Carol
Don't ask me how I got it in my head that Houston was recently dropped. I know the race lengths are directly linked to TV coverage, but I agree that a race under two hours shouldn't be labeled an "endurance" race. That designation should be for races 3 hours or more in length IMHO. I envy you going to see the LMS race at Barcelona. I really would love to see the Aston Martin LMP1 cars in the flesh. Have fun Carol! Gary
