StabilKruze is doing their annual car show at Soldier field again: www.chitownkruze.com I've been to this event in the past and just loved the relaxed atmosphere and the abundance of cars. There is always something special showing you don't see anywhere else. I'll be there this year with the Daytona.
Damn I'd be there but that's my graduation party. I hear it's good. Is it before 4? Thats when I have to be at the party. If it is, I can make it... for a little while at least. -Dan
Hell yes, it starts at 9am. Goes all day. Usually there is only one lonely De Tomaso representing the Italian field. But you also find some really unique nuggets in the rough: A few years ago I met Daytona legend Russ Truelove in person (Vintage Motor racing just had an article about him) along with his car. Hoping this year there'll be one of the original participating "cars" of the first motor race ever held in the US. Chances are good.
Haha cool thanks. How to get a ride up there will be tricky but I'll find a way. Hey can I have shotgun in the Daytona? lol -Dan
AGH! Looks like there's no way I can make it. I realized my last baseball game of the season it from 8:30-12:00 am. Bummer....
Daytona has been shot. I was limping back on Sunday barely making it home. Gotta bring the 308 to Stabilkruze. It's old enough to qualify.
Sorry to hear about the Daytona Andreas, It's 4 am and I'm ending up new brake lines for up front The firewall mods necessitated it. Bled the clutch half hour ago, and can't try and test start it cause this time of night every neighbor will be out for blood if I do. I haven't slept cause we're trying to be able to be on the road again - especially with such perfect weather..I should have known better than to make so many changes in the spring, but I always am over optimistic about how quick it can be done.. anyway, I better get back out to the garage.. Good luck with the Daytona, what broke?
It's still a bit of a mistery to me and I'm sure Ed will figure it out. The engine got really hot and coolant was dripping. Of course anybody familiar with C3 Vettes would just shrough it off. After all they're known to make all kinds of strange noises. I'll never forget the ride in Rick's car: "Oh, your car makes that funny noise/smell/bump too?" I'll never understand what caused the world's fascination with Corvettes in the first place.
Could be the thermostat is stuck in the closed position or not fully opening. That may explain the overheating. The oil is a bit of a puzzler. Broken oil cooler line? Blown seal? Leaking something else? Oil on the belts and the power steering pump pully slipping causing weird steering experience? Sounds like a six beer job.
I imagine I'll be seeing it at Ed's real soon, are you going to have it flatbedded out? If so, use Ed's towing company (Hoerchers), they do a good job.
"'rack and pinion add on"? I'm confused Andreas, does your chassis have some sort of conversion to the front steering? That era Vette had a power assisted "recirculating ball" type steering box up front like the passenger cars used rather than a more sporty and proper rack. If the pump started running dry from a hose or the pump or steering gearbox leaking it would make a pretty bad groaning sound, if that leak soaked the belts it could have then tossed the waterpump belt or slipped enough to end up running hot... just a few thoughts, I'm sure I could be completely wrong. Sorry I couldn't get done in time for us to be there this morning, hopefully we will be able to drive the GTO in the next couple hours. Haley asked me to call this morning when it was obvious we wouldn't be there but I couldn't find your number and thought it would be rude to call at 5 am anyway (and by a more civilized 7 am I was hallucinating and talking to myself from lack of sleep lol!). Hope you had fun at the show, and good luck with the Daytona, I still have some vent windows for you to try on it too btw. I had a few C3 Vettes in the past and loved them despite all the quirks
Yup, Ed added an aftermarket kit to it that gave it some sort of rack and pinion steering. The difference was that it no longer felt like a boat, but rather like a modern American car. Still a far cry from a Ferrari rack and pinion steering, but at least the car now goes where you point the steering wheel.

Did you check if a belt let go? On your car, I believe the power steering pump and water pump are driven from the same belt; that could account for the wacky steering and overheating.
A Citroen taxi I rode in, I forget where but I think it was in Paris in the 70's. Pretty cool how the hydraulic suspension system worked.
