Listers, I changed the oil in my 1982 308 today and looked at the 30 year old brake hoses and thought I should change them replacing them with stainless steel units Seems to me that there has been some discussion on this site about some different brands not fitting etc. Please what is the current thinking. Drive Safe. John
There are a few different part numbers out there depending on GT4, US, or Euro spec though the kits I have seen seem to be "one size fits all/most". I ordered mine from HEL Performance HEL Performance USA | Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines right off the website. My car is a Euro so they were not quite right. After a phone call to talk it over I sent them back along with one each of my front and rear originals and got a great looking and fitting set back within a few days, no extra charge. I think he has probably seen them all by now so if you give HEL a call and describe your fittings and lengths he should be able to get you set up. Very reasonably priced and handmade in the USA.
Hi, I'm using Goodridge (TFE 0200-4P) in my 84 QV, fits perfect and as far as I know the only brand which is TUV tested / approved and street legal here in Germany. Kind Regards, Joachim
I have the HEL lines. I emailed them right after I ordered them to make sure that I got the right parts and they handled it very nicely. Everything fit perfectly.
I have fitted Goodridge lines to my 1980 400i after having blown out the left rear original brake line. When I say blown, I mean blown to bits while driving. Brake fluid everywhere. My brake pedal went right to the floor with no warning. When this happens, one at first has no clue what happened for the first one or two seconds. Your first clue is that the car just keeps rolling forward, and the car in front of you just keeps getting bigger. Thank God that I was only traveling at about 20 mph. This can be terrifying if you car has the automatic T400 as mine does. Unlike manual transmission, there is no engine compression braking, so by the time you apply the emergency brake, you're just about out of time. Sort of like ejecting really close to the ground. I got lucky. What I am actually saying.....Change them now. Thank you. Jq.
I think it was years ago someone had the nightmare of the tube flares being off spec. They are standard and really should pose no problems. There was all kinds of bad ideas like copper sealing washers! It should mate right up if the flare is proper. One thing I recall is that while the outer stainless braid looks really cool, normal rubber is fine (it's lasted all these years!) and also, IIRC Australia does not permit exposed braid, they want a tube sleeve over THAT, to prevent small wires breaking and chaffing. That, IMO is a damn fine idea! Ask your vendor these questions. Girodisc Goodridge Bendix These are brands we can trust, IMO
I put Godridge lines from Superformance on both my GT4 and my QV GTS. Fit and function was fine with both sets. They both had a clear plastic coating over the stainless braid.
I also put Goodridge on my 84 Euro. They fit and work fine as they were out of the box. Got them on Amazon. No plastic sheath were on the ones I got, just bare stainless braid.
Hi Brian, I did the same on my 83 QV…same kit from Superformance. A friend of mine was asking me for the reference and I noticed that the Goodridge ones don’t mentioned QV. They are working fine on my car though. Did you have any issues? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I have a track rat friend to went backwards into a wall after one of his brake hoses failed. In the USA, most hoses are made with a "DOT Approved" machine. The final step in hose construction is pressure testing to something like 3,000 psi. This story is a roundabout way to say that there are also hoses that are not DOT approved ("for off-road used only") which may or may not have been pressure tested or constructed to necessary standards. I had plain rubber hoses custom made by Tri-Valley Hose in Livermore California. They were the people who explained the DOT process to me. They have the DOT machine.
I am not aware of any changes to the brakes or suspension in the 2 valve to 4 valve change. I can't think of any reason the brake lines would need to be any different.
