I had a problem with my 1984 308 GTS QV - running very rough one side, took to my mechanic that does all my work said they found problem was one coil wire bad replaced, also one spark plug wire bad replaced, also replaced all plugs, also replaced fuel filter said was dirty, but know they are having problem with idle wants to stall. It would idle before I took it in but ran rough if idled long could smell unburnt gasoline before taking in for rough running. They ran out of time Friday will finish Monday. I was wondering what it could be could it be oxygen sensor or something else.
Just wondering I know they will find problem they are good people.

Maybe they mis-diagnosed a bad coil for a flywheel sensor. It will shut spark down on one bank if it goes. You have 3 of them. You can check the resist. to see if any are bad or not.

Disconnect and very thoroughly clean the two connectors on the left side of the engine bay, just forward of the coolant tank. Use a stiff bristle brush (nylon or brass) and a good electrical contact cleaner.

I can tell you how many 308's I've "fixed" by just doing this.

Look at the flywheel sensors. I changed all three of mine and fixed some strange problems. When cold it ran good after 10 or 15 min. it would start to missfire eraticly and surge at idle. This problem started out very seldom and progressed to where it happened regularly, thats when it became esay to find.

Sorry to hear you're having problems, John, with the great weather today I'm planning to reward myself with a little drive shortly! :D

I saw coil wire yesterday it was like almost burnt or like broken and also spark plug wire at end was all cracked. I will suggest fly wheel sensors Monday. What I don't understand when I took it in car idled slow only ran rough and no power, but that is ok know electrical problems are funny.
Yes I was looking forward to driving this weekend, but their will be other days first time in 5 years let me down.
I was getting ready to take it in for tune up and 30,000 mile service next month the baby just couldn't wait.
