I have pulled the engine out of the 308 and one of the things I'm considering is replacing the starter, as long as the engine is out. I have been in touch with Gustafson Machine, the company that makes the high torque gear reductions starters, and he is currently in the process of producing a starter for the 308 8 cyl. engine. He already has one for the V12 engines, but has not previously done one for the 308 engine. He has a starter that he is using to make the adapter plate and setup.

So the question came up -- Did all of the 308s use the same starter and have the same flywheel in terms of diameter and number of teeth? Obviously, if all of the 308 engines used the same starter configuration, including the GT4s and Mondials, he would only need to make one setup. Plus, I could be assured that the starter he is making up now would work on my car.

Any info about this would be greatly appreciated. For those that might be interested in a replacement gear reduction starter, I'll let you know when he has completed the process and the starters are available. I have used his starters in several Jaguar XKEs and they are fantastic.

Come on, gang, someone must know the answer to this question. Do the 308s all share the same starter and flywheel setup? Someone must have an idea about this. Please??!!??

Not sure sorry but I also like his starters and will buy one for my 308. I guess they mean easier starting and a 10lb or so weight reduction.
