I had a starting issue today that gave me a little scare. I drove for about 1.5 hours of some spirited driving and normal driving. I then stopped at a gas station to get some drinks. I got in my car and turned the key and had lights and beeping sound, but motor did not start. I waited 5 minutes and tried again, this time I had nothing, no lights, but the click, click, click, click sound which is the sound of a battery not getting enough power. I then waited 5 more minutes and it fired right up and drove fine for the rest of the day. I have been having this issue for a few weeks but not as bad as today. Usually it does it at least once a day, but only for a minute or two. Should I replace my battery and clean the terminals? I had it charging for 5 months on a charger.

If you still have the bullet connectors, I would start by ditching those for a solid wire. Be sure to do both the +/- battery cables. If you don't know what they look like run a search of the archive, you'll find a pic.

common problem with 348 and Mondial T. Had this issue, and FofSF put in an $80 booster from the Key to the starter. When the car has been run, and ges a bit hot, the starter solenoid gets too hot [this is how I understood their explaination]

Since they are a factor owned dealership, not a franchise, I took their solution and NEVER had a starting issue since. I'm almost sure this is it with you. do a search, I'll try too, but you'll find this in numerous fchat spots.

If you need help, call the service dept. at Ferrari of San Francisco, and ask how much and what kind of unit it is, perhaps even buy it from them. the $80 installed is too much, but, ya' can consider it a tip to them for dealing with you afar: not a common thing for them sometimes, but they do respond.

Ok, that makes some sense, it only does it when I drive like I just stole it. Thanks

ya' and not only is it embarassing when you are trying to start in a public place and your FERRARI just doesn't do anything, but sometimes when it DOES try to start, it almost doesn't engage and you have to do it more than once....

there was a time, before it was fixed I would 'pretend' to be calling on the cell phone...SOMETIMES it even took over 20 min. to cool down: thought all sorts of horrors, and jumped for joy when FofSF said, no problem, seen it, here's an $80 fix from the factory :))))))))

PS: Try calling Ricambi and see if they have a solution like mine, too.

Thats so funny, that is exactly what I did today, I made a call on my phone, well at least I am not alone here. It only took about 10 minutes, but it felt like a half hour.

First solution is to skip those two bullet connectors.

Doesn´t cost more than a few dollars.

A red wire from the battery to the starter and a black one from battery to the earth. Simple.

If that is not the cure probably the solenoid of the starter is worn.

    Cheap stuff that also.

I have had this problem off and on for a few years, but it is getting to the point that I have to do something.

My TR had the same issue with hot starts, and I added a relay at the starter and I never had the problem again.

For the life of me I can't remember the actual wiring arrangement, If anyone has done this, please shed some light. I think that I am also going to replace the bullet connector from the battery to the starter to take that out of the equation as well.

your solution was the same as my mention above. TR has the same problem of heat to solenoid too: so I was told by FofSF.
