Hello, just got a 1987 328 GTS deliver in an enclosed 2 car trailer…previous owner had no problems with car starting. Pulled off trailer, turned off, I tried to start and didn’t start right away..might have not even cranked..I don’t remember, but tried again and cranked..parked it, started it a few more time, drove a block n back home,,,so excited to familiarize myself with her..checking button functions n stuff, you know kid in a candy store…tried to start and wouldn’t,,,crank, dash lights come on, seems normal just won’t catch..my carpet sometimes moves and pushes the accelerator pedal, causing the idle to rise..previous owner told me about that when I reached out to him.so thought, ok, maybe flooded her…tried a few more times all night, but nothing, thought to let her sit, if flooded hopefully extra fuel will evaporate..checked Maint records, battery was 5 years old..so thought maybe not getting enough crank,,changed battery..cranks strong but didn’t turn over..now thinking seems to be fuel delivery..had 1/4 tank accord to fuel gauge..not sure if accurate, so got a few gallons of gas..same…check 7.5 cold start fuse, good, fuel pump good..going to check cold start ins, pulled blue connection, had someone try n test it while I crank…boom it started with ink disconnected…I was so happy it started..-it the blue clip back, it ran for a minute or so and died…started back up, I revved it..drove around the block n parked it,thinking maybe in the transport with 1/4 tank, some debris in the tank blocked the fuel filter, or something and it cleared..but then after a few hours I go back to test and it doesn’t start right up, just cranking..try 2 more times, then it starts…thinking, can it be the cold start injector..am I flooding it, should I disconnect the cold start inj...I’m in Vegas, it’s not cold..garage is 70 degrees…anyone know if I might b flooding it..I haven’t tried starting it again with blue clip disconnected..will try tmr if it doesn’t start right away..I’ve seen other posts regarding starting issues, but it was working fine b4 being trailered…thanks in advance

Am I right that I should not be giving it any gas when starting..since it’s fuel injection, not a carb..or could my problem be it’s not getting enough gas… I don’t want to flood it….manual says never give gas when starting..but seen some forum responses to give a lil gas…

"Hello, just got a 1987 328 GTS deliver in an enclosed 2 car trailer…previous owner had no problems with car starting."

Did you personally witness the car starting normally before you purchased it or are you basing that statement on what the previous owner said? ;)

It is extremely unlikely that transporting the car caused any such problem. Transporting in a truck is less strain/stress/movement on the vehicle systems than driving it.

If I understand your post, you disconnected the cold start injector and then it started OK? If so, then the cold start injector/thermo switch is the issue and it didn't occur in transport.

You cannot "flood" a fuel injected engine by pressing down on the accelerator HOWEVER, if the cold start injector is supplying too much fuel, opening the throttle could help starting.

When you pull the blue safety switch connector and turn the key "on" = the fuel pump should run and the frequency valve should vibrate (so just touch it to confirm/deny). If you can get the engine to run well, touch the frequency valve to "calibrate" yourself for how it should be vibrating (so you can test for this when it won't start).
