hey all. I did try and search this question but i came up short. I had read in a 348 site that to start the car you should have the clutch in and gear in neutral. I have been putting the gear in neutral but I dont know if it is necessary to depress the clutch while starting the car. I have a mondial T so it is basically the same car. also if any gearheads can kindly give me a ferrari lesson 101 on why you have to have the gear in neutral and why you would have to have the clutch depressed. I am trying to learn ???????????????????????????????

You can do what you want, but I usually start my car (and advised my hundreds of F-car customers) in neutral. Often, I depress the clutch pedal to disengage my transaxle, but I imagine the more anal among us will worry about thrust bearing surface wear <very big grin>. A lot of folks depress the clutch if the car is in gear and start the car. No harm, no foul.

Have fun with the car and don't worry about it. You won't hurt it...

Someone posted some excellent data recently (that I leave to you to find ;)) -- IIRC:

Start car in neutral with clutch not depressed = 220A current draw

Start car in neutral with clutch depressed = 150A current draw
