I am curious as to the method of starting the car from cold ; I start my 355 and let it idle for several minutes before moving the car.I always wait for the vacuum pumps to finish ' whining '' - Any recommendations from other members?

I don't think it is necessary on a modern car to have it idle several minutes before moving. What is really important is to be very gentle on the throttle pedal and the revs until the oil is fully warmed. BTW, having your car idling before moving is only warming the engine but not the gearbox. So, start it, drive it cool until all is at nominal temprerature and then ... GASSSSSSSS :)
Oh also, this famous pump is not a "vacuum" pump, it is a classical pump which blows some air (oxygen) in the exhaust to burn the remaining fuel during the extra-rich warm-up phase and avoid the cats to overheat.

+1 as Eric.... i put the key in...turn it to the on position, wait 5 seconds, then start it. once all the ABS lights etc go off, i start it out in first gear, rolling down the block slowly for about half a mile until the temp gauges are up, then I'm good to go!
