....for NO FRONT PLATE! After a a pleasant chat, where I politely told him I would contest the ticket, he have me a warning. Whats up with that? Why cant he just leave us guys with rare nice cars alone? My sense is he wanted to bust my b***s, but when he realized I was nice, poilite, and would fight it, he thought the better of it.

Thoughts? Anyone else go through this?

Constantly. I usually show them the actual plate, with the plateclips attachment and tell them I'm coming from a car show. Usually, they bugger off.

nowadays in MA they will fail you for an inspection if you don't have a front plate...they had to drill the front bumper of my dad's 6 series

Sure, no front plate on multiple Ferrari's covering 30 years in a couple of States. Rare or not, the law is what the law is...The inspection law is the same way. I temporarily install the plate for inspection purposes; after than who knows. I don't see how any ball busting is occurring other than the law being enforced equally. Most officers ask about the plate, the car...and move on. On the other hand...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I remember in Connecticut, the front plate was NOT always a law. And I remember back in the early 80's that it became required...... but no one seems to remember when I ask to confirm.

In reference to the CT plates - I was told, from a state officer a while ago, that once the plates changed from not having the white CT in the upper left corner to having this is when both rear and front plates were required.

I always keep the front plate under the seat or in the glove box- and tell them i just ordered the mounting bracket... that the car was in the shop for six months- If it's a Ferrari they always believe it.

Ya...had a state cop bust my balls in my Saleen for no front plate. Didn't get a ticket. I keep the second plate under my drivers seat so I just threw it on the dash. I am tempted to put some double sided tape on it in case it ever happens again. Ha!

Yep. That is correct. Still don't have front plates on two of my cars. I figure with the 308 I am running antique plates. If I get stopped I just say, "It's an antique and being maintained in it's original condition as required by law. Adding a front license plate mount would not be original and would be a violation which could cause me to loose antique status." :)

Actually CT had front plates back in the '70s. Then eliminated the front as a cost savings. Then, when laser radar was introduced they reissued the front reflective plates over a number of years until everybody had them.

    Are you kidding me??

If for the following questions are no....

    All of your lights/indicators working?
    Were you speeding?
    Driving Drunk?
    Texting while driving?
    Driving erratically due to drugs?
    Road rage?
    Just robbed a bank?
Killed a sack full of puppies?

....then how is it you were pulled over for any kind of safety violations that's putting the general public in any kind of danger. These guys should focus more on those types of people and leave us car peeps alone.

Ok, I'm off my soap box.

I received a ticket for no license plate when my car was parked in Westchester. Now when parking, I place plate on dash.

The State of South Carolina doesn't issue front plates. Guess I better stay out of Yankee Land. Too many laws.

In Rhode Island they'll pull you over depending on the car. Countach, Diablo, Viper, Bentley, I got pulled over all the time. Jeep, BMW (3 series), Cadillac CTS-V, they don't even notice me.

The perfect proof of my point, I was following my wife home, her in her 3 series, me in my Bentley GT. (both without front plates) She passed the RI State Trooper...nothing, I passed and you guessed it, pulled over for no front plate.

The law is the law and I have finally caved and put front plates on our cars but it just shows you how they single out nicer cars.

Every year I ask my insurance representative who happens to be my wife to notify the MA Registry that I have lost my front plate.
The Registry issues me a Lost Plate Receipt which I keep handy just in case.
It takes about four months to get a new plate. The cost is $25.00 - I think.
    No hassle.

Very cool trick, just found this on RMV site.

    Replacement Plates

"Replacement plates may be ordered from an RMV branch or over the phone (617-351-4500 or 800-858-3926). The fee is $10 per plate. You will be issued a temporary plate permit to keep in the vehicle until the plate arrives. You may obtain an inspection with this permit, if needed. If both of your plates were lost or stolen, you must obtain a new set of plates (new plate/registration number) from an RMV branch."

    So only $10.
Been driving for over 10 years without a front plate and until last December never a problem. Was on a cruise up to NH with some friends and we heard over our scanners that we were reported for speeding and Statie was coming after us, we slowed down and heard him say he caught up to us but we were going the speed limit. He drove along side us and pulled me over for expired reg tag, It was Dec 3 and and my sticker expired Nov 30 and had forgot to put new sticker on. He asked if we were speeding and I said no, he was pretty pissed and walked around car and gave me a ticket for expired sticker and no front plate. I fought them both, went to appeal with pictures of car with plate and correct sticker on and Judge dropped both. After that I put front plate on since car did have a holder and figured I could not beat another ticket for it and do not want the moving violation points that go along with it. But now have new car and not using front plate since no holder.

Same with Michigan. Except plate registration in Michigan is about 3-4 times costlier than Florida.

    I just don't get it.

Whenever I get pulled over, I ALWAYS get a ticket.

Whenever my wife gets pulled, she goes to the cop car for 20 minutes and NEVER gets a ticket.
