... greatest wagon of them all: http://jalopnik.com/5841365/mercedes-c63-amg-wagon-sounds-glorious-on-the-track?popular=true
If you're handy and can do repairs, the 5er wagon would be great, but that doesn't change the fact that the parts are still expensive. If you've got kids, MPV without a doubt. At $20k, it depends on whether you want AWD. We almost bought a Mazda 5 a couple years ago but it sold too quickly. We ended up with a Fit instead.
I've done quite a bit of work on our '99 528 in the 6 years/70k miles (now 125k): VANOS seal repair (second time I changed the cam cover gasket), CCV upgrade, oil filter housing gasket, brakesx2, PS pump and lines, ABS module (sent out for rebuild), rad&thermo, ~15 oil changes (topsider vacuum systems makes it a snap), winter tires, etc. Damn, it sounds like a ton, but probably saved $10k doing that all myself. It's just such a sophisticated, elegant, capable car I don't regret buying it for $15k in '05. I don't really want AWD for the Jeep's replacement. With a 50lb bag of sand in the trunk, and a set of Blizzacks on the 528 the wife does fine all winter long, so I'll do the same. We're about 1 year off from kids, but I dig sliding doors and 6 seat capacity would be nice to have when visiting clients or taking friends out. What year Fit do you have? Any regrets with that (options or otherwise?). You've gotta love the mpg. cheers
Our Fit is an 07 sport with an auto transmission. We get 40+ mpg on the freeway and it's surprisingly roomy Inside. The only regret I have is the color, black is such a pain to keep clean.

I keep seeing a dark gray one with yellow calipers, no chrome (it's all blacked out) and smoked wheels. My god it's insanely good looking!

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/18/six-things-we-learned-at-bmw-m/ The ///M wagon is dead. I can't believe they only sold 1,056 world wide.
I also thought it was interesting that the US is the only market demanding a traditional manual transmission. I would have thought it was opposite.
This is the worst news I've heard all day. I was REALLY hoping they'd bring the M5 F11 stateside. This leaves me no choice but to do an M5 V10 swap into my E61 wagon. Hey, wait a second!!!!! I might just do that!
Just stumbled across this pic. Quick Google search found this: http://horsepowercalculators.posterous.com/volvo-estate-racer-an-icon-of-90s-btcc Image Unavailable, Please Login
E61 M5 wagon is awesome, but those V10's are not reliable and the gearboxes a little jerky in city traffic, so it's really not an option for trading out the regular E55 AMG alternative. I was dreaming about the perfect M-car; M5, Touring, xDrive. Oh well. At least they're true to the RWD for the cars that actually matter (3 & 5)... PS. Also sad if they're not making a roadster M...
when I was younger, I dreamt of building a replica of that car. still do, but with the engine mine has along with the family transporting duty and the big dent/hole my wife made in it, I guess my 850 isn't going down that road...
Perfect! I need to ask my BMW guy about the possibility of this. I would think it would be doable, but I wonder if my x-drive system would work with the new power plant.
