I need to find a website with the statistics data of GDP and poverty for the last 40/50 or so years. I keep finding the last 1-5 years only. And now I am really frustrated.

Omar, I don't have the site, but try census database and Medicare/Medicaid eligibility incomes/poverty line...should get you closer, maybe 30-40y back

    Cool, thanks.

I am curious what a chart of GDP/person to poverty rate would look like...

CIA website is a font of knowledge...ranks GDP, likely to pinpoint hotspots.
    http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/fields/2046.html
Looks at % below poverty line.
Using census data, can perhaps regress some of the data.

I love Stats...nice formulas in some of these papers, validity unknown, but a starting point.

Bikini thread, poverty v GDP/capita, F-cars, divorce...been all over the map tonite.
How are ya, Omar? How is Noelani?

    Professor LoL! :p

All I could see was that during periods of noteworthy economic depression, such as the early 90s and 2ks, the amount of GDP per 100 people only moderately dipped or leveled off. On the other hand, the national poverty percent was far more adversely affected, with upwards of 10%-20% change in a short time (3 years). Based of this I speculate that the poorest people in the US are the most susceptible to recessions/general slowing of the economy, while the "average" American can endure a period of fiscal stagnation without nearly as much hardship (as represented by the GDP/100 people fig).

Nice work Omar. I would agree, and the poorest are dependent on the "table scraps" available from the middle and upper classes. Not to mention some Ferrari speculators in there when bottom fell out of the irrationally exuberant market.
Our little democracy building exercise isn't helping matters either. Look at deficit spending and poverty for laughs.
Thx for posting the results, hope I was helpful to you.
    Best to Noelani
