    Hi Everyone,

My car went to status 85 or 90 on 3/9/15 and they told me it will land in Los Angeles on 3/27/15 using air freight. Is that normal? Does it take Ferrari 2 weeks to schedule a flight?

In my experience, that is within the expected range, yes.

Yes. In my case, I didn't order air freight but they shipped it air anyway. It landed in LA and just showed up before the dealer even got an invoice. I tell this story because with Ferrari anything is possible.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just wanted to make sure that is normal from status 90 to land in LAX in 2.5 weeks. I thought it would take 1 week at most haha.

I am just astounded that you can pay $20 to ship a trinket around the US or the world and be able to go online and know exactly where your package is at any given hour, but you buy a $300,000+ Ferrari and they have no idea where in the world it is. Good grief!

Hey! Just be thankful you're getting a delivery at all! Those poor FXXK owners have to go to Maranello to see their cars...

yes it does take atleast 2 weeks. I just got mine and I waited over 2 weeks. But the fun part is: once its on that plane, within 15 hrs, it'll be on U.S. soil!!!!!

Thanks for the info. Didn't know it took 2 weeks after status 90. I thought status 90 means it is already on the plane. But yeah once its on the plane thats fast.

From the "tribal lore" (which is about as precise as you'll get when tracking a new inbound Ferrari...)

Status 90 means the car is literally tendered for shipping. This could mean it's loaded right away, or it could sit a while....and then get loaded....and then the ship might make a few stops, divert away from rough weather....and then sit off Newark waiting for an offloading slot...then through customs....then through FAPS (import prep facility at Newark)...then it might wait to be loaded on a truck heading towards your dealership...which might make a few stops along the way.

Cars going via ship are containerized. Via air, the cars are on open airfreight pallets. Via air, generally once it's on its way it will keep going, though it may have to wait for positive space and is also likely to change planes. Airfreight customs is generally quicker....assuming the paperwork is in order. (A 747 of freight is tiny compared to a ship...)

If damaged in transit, FAPS can do repairs without the dealer or customer even being aware (there is a thread here somewhere about in-transit, pre-sales storage...). For air, if the car is dinged in transit it will be caught (hopefully) as its received and likely repaired at dealer.

Given all this, ship-based transits can vary....a lot. Air, still have some variances but highly compressed time, probably at least 2 weeks just in transit Newark-LA. IIRC air freight costs are dependent on the destination (to LAX costs more than to JFK).

As for tracking, the Ferrari MODIS system (i.e. "Status 90") can be wayyy off....we had one car delivered to the dealer with Modis still at 70. I am SURE they can track each car at each step of the process, the question is whether they cannot integrate tracking real-time into Modis, or choose not to. I actually think the former, as Modis is a really old system

Thanks for the details. I think airfreight they go straight to the closest airport.
